FWIW it's cool to make fun of people while posting anonymously on the internet.

Ordinairly I'd counter this, but you have the least anonymous name in internet history.

Island Guy here

I did not get reported for the bluebooking incident some moron claims. I wrote the essay portion in iambic pentameter which apparently isn't allowed.

No, I did not make law review. I have a 3.69 which i deliberately obtained so i could make 69 jokes to interviewers

Any other questions?

So when a firm asks for a references list on Simplicity, do we include it as a second page to our resume? I didn't see a separate way to upload it when selecting a firm to bid on.

Just be prepared to bring them to the screening interview (actually, you should have a list of references to bring to every screening interview in case you get asked). No firm is going to call references to determine who to grant screening interviews to, so it shouldn't matter at this stage.

I'm trying to get something out of my summer job. If that doesn't work I'll trim or beef up a memo.

My wife likes to toss them with chopped red onion and balsamic vinegar. Not my thing, but I see the appeal.

If I email career services a bidlist, will they look at it and give comments?

I'm under the impression that they're pretty swamped in OCS, and are likely to be getting to emails etc. in the order they come in, which could give you a decent waiting period. Other than time constraints I don't see a reason they wouldn't, though.

You would probably get a quicker response if you took advantage of the Quick Counseling opportunities they are doing by phone. I think KD sent an email out about in on Thursday.

I guess no one knows for sure, but how much weight do yall think is given to a partner passing my name along to the hiring committee? My GPA is at the low end of the firm's range.

Question about cover letters:

If I am bidding on Charlotte office for a firm and have information about their recruiting coordinator for Charlotte, should I address my cover letter to her, even if the "Contact Information" section on Symplicity has information for their recruiting coordinator for another (say DC) firm?

Thanks!

if we feel that our writing sample isn't stellar is it better to bid on firms that don't require writing sample (all things being equal) ?

How many interviews is considered to be a "good" amount to have?

It's impossible to know. Depends on what kind of word the partner puts in for you, the influence he has around the firm, the firm's ordinary procedures with regard to hiring on this basis, etc.

I'd use the contact information on Symplicity. That's what everyone else will do, and it seems likely that the firm's larger office will also be doing the screening interviews for Charlotte, in which case, your letter will be read by the larger office's recruiting coordinator.

barry wrote:if we feel that our writing sample isn't stellar is it better to bid on firms that don't require writing sample (all things being equal) ?

I don't think that's a good reason for not bidding a firm. A lot of firms that ask for writing samples and cover letters don't actually care; someone at the firm simply checked the box saying they wanted that from applicants on Symplicity. And it shouldn't be that hard to produce a passable writing sample. It doesn't have to be stellar; it just needs to contain legal analysis and be error-free.

jawsthegreat wrote:How many interviews is considered to be a "good" amount to have?

I'd say 20+ is "good," but it depends on the firms. I recall 15 being about average, could be wrong though.

We can only take 20 interviews total this year.
