It seems like a fair number of firms are holding receptions for those who are interviewing with them. Is it important to go to these receptions? I mean, does it really make a difference either way?

Yes. Very. There will be a sign-in sheet. They will notice.Anonymous User wrote:It seems like a fair number of firms are holding receptions for those who are interviewing with them. Is it important to go to these receptions? I mean, does it really make a difference either way?
That said, if you must miss such a reception (as is my lot tonight), I would definitely RSVP regrets, perhaps with a brief explanation. This is of course assuming you have the kind of prior commitment that would justify missing such an event. Otherwise, you're essentially telling them that getting a job with their firm isn't worthwhile enough for you to come out to a fancy place and chit-chat/eat and drink on their dime when they've flown across the country to meet you. Not a good impression to make.

I don't recall the Troutman Sanders reception having a sign-in sheet. Did I miss something?bgdddymtty wrote:Yes. Very. There will be a sign-in sheet. They will notice.

I didn't see a sign-in sheet either. There were very few attorneys there due to some transportation issue.Anonymous User wrote:I don't recall the Troutman Sanders reception having a sign-in sheet. Did I miss something?bgdddymtty wrote:Yes. Very. There will be a sign-in sheet. They will notice.

Re: UVa OGI 2011 thread
I've heard some talk about these receptions. Probably an annoying question, but is it weird that I haven't been invited to any? I'm almost exclusively interviewing in secondary markets, and I'd assume that the regional-type firms would be less likely to host something like that. But some of my interviews have been with smaller offices of large, national firms. Am I totally screwed, or am I just being excessively paranoid?Anonymous User wrote:It seems like a fair number of firms are holding receptions for those who are interviewing with them. It's fine. I haven't been invited to any receptions, and I have three callbacks at the moment. Non-LR grades.Anonymous User wrote:I've heard some talk about these receptions. Don't say that, don't freak people out. As we've all discussed many times, the fact that one callback went out is not indicative, at all, of whether you are going to get a callback. Unless you have gotten dinged by a firm, you are still in the running.Anonymous User wrote:Yep. Sorry, bro.Anonymous User wrote:Latham DC?

Re: UVa OGI 2011 thread
I noticed that folks in some other schools' threads are including the initials of the interviewer with their info about callbacks/dings/etc. Obviously it still wouldn't be indicative of whether all callbacks had gone out, but I think it might be somewhat useful.Anonymous User wrote: Don't say that, don't freak people out. Re: UVa OGI 2011 thread
I heard [firm name redacted] called people this morning letting them know about CB's. About 12 hours later, I received my CB.
So - just b/c other people got CB's doesn't mean you didn't get one!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
