Top 10 - 15% at 25 - 30 school, SoCal ties: 3 preselects, 2 alternates. Hm.
I don't entirely understand the lottery part of this. The e-mail said, "The lottery will take place on Monday, July 18." Does this mean we'll be alerted then if we're selected as candidates? Help...

preselect
not invited

lottery
Is that how it works? You're only eligible for lottery if it lists "lottery" in your status thing right?

That's exactly what I was confused about... Don't see any lottery indications in my status. Darn.

I do not have any "lottery" designations either .. I thought even if a firm rejected you for preselect you would eligible for lottery, through the ranking we put in at the time of the bidding, but this is clearly not true if people have "lottery" selected.

Does anyone actually have "lottery" as their status?
Or does "not invited" mean you still have a chance at lottery?

Yes, def, the lotteries have not come out yet. The way it was explained to me was that firms first select, then out of the people not selected each firms 25% will be filled by a lottery that would happen the 18th.fl0w wrote:So do we think that "not invited" then means that you still have a chance at lottery interviews?Anonymous User wrote:I dont think anyone actually has "lottery" in their status. No I think it would say "lottery" if we were lottery candidate...at least it seems like that from the email.

4 preselects, 5 alternates, no lotteries (yet?). I also don't totally get how the alternate system works, any insights?

Top 30% MVP, 0 preselects, 2 alternates.
No ties to CA, but this is just horrible. There must be something seriously wrong with my resume/cover letter. Need to review them this weekend before OCI bidding.

Here's the distribution of preselects so far:
0, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 11
Should we assume that TLSers would generally do better than the rest of the BADF population, or is that presumptuous much?

Re: 2011 Bay Area Diversity Career Fair
A little above median MVPB, NorCal ties, 5 preselects + 3 alternates.
Lottery will run on July 18. Interviews are distributed purely on bid rankings. It is irrelevant whether or not you have received preselects/alternates.
Given that most employers have 13 interview slots, this means there are 25% x 13 = 3.25 interviews per employer location based on lottery. Given that there are 45 employers, this means there are 146.25 lottery interviews.
(Btw, I have no idea what 1/4 of an interview is ... I'm just running the approximate numbers ...)
I don't know how many people apply to this fair, but I'm guessing this means you'll get 1 or 2 lottery interviews at best.
Hope it helps.

In case anyone was wondering, I'm top 1/3 DCN, no ties, decent work experience.Anonymous User wrote:4 preselects, 5 alternates, no lotteries (yet?). I also don't totally get how the alternate system works, any insights?

Re: 2011 Bay Area Diversity Career Fair
IIRC, last year about 500 people bid, and 250 interviews were granted, 120 or so call backs, and 50 offers.
Since most preselects probably go to top candidates, i'd imaging a lot of people who bid only got lottery interviews or no interviews.

Does anyone have info about how the alternate system works? I really don't understand "first come, first serve" when it's all done online.

Re: 2011 Bay Area Diversity Career Fair
Can people who took part in this fair talk about how fast firms move after the fair? I am trying to take a vacation after the fair, and before OCI, and want to be in SF as long as possible before having to return to school to schedule callbacks (maybe get an offer) before OCI starts.

25 "not invited"s. Lame! Median-ish* @ T20, work experience, graduate degree . . . assed-out.
* School doesn't rank, so I am not 100% sure. They do inform us if we are in the top or bottom third, though. No word. Hence, the "median-ish."

If we have been chosen as a pre-select/alternate and need to edit our resumes, can we still do through the simplicity website, or should we just bring an updated resume to the interview??

Can anyone speak to the way that alternates can secure an interview?Anonymous User wrote:Does anyone have info about how the alternate system works? I really don't understand "first come, first serve" when it's all done online.

Re: 2011 Bay Area Diversity Career Fair
Last year, alternates worked like this.
You login to the system at the scheduled time and if there is an open slot (i.e. someone who got invited to interview in the first round, declined), then everyone who is selected as an alternate has a chance to grab that open slot. Its first come first serve, not a lottery among the chosen alternates. So you better make sure you're by a computer at that time and sign up as fast as possible.

Re: 2011 Bay Area Diversity Career Fair
Depends on the firm. Many will try to bring you in for a callback before you head out to your school (especially if you go to an out of state school), so that they can save on air fare. As for offers, I only have a couple of data points. Most firms will wait till after they've interviewed other candidates at real OCIs before sending out offers, though I know of one guy who got an offer within like a week.Anonymous User wrote:Bumping this, anyone know time-table? I would make sure to tell the interviewer when you will be going back to school so that they know to make a decision fast about callbacks.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
