Wondering if any similarly situated firms are this compressed?
That's a very unique scale, especially since K&S and A&B set the Atlanta 1st-year salary at 155, which was matched by almost all the other Atlanta based firms. Even without the other numbers, there aren't that many Amlaw 100 firms that start at 150 in Atlanta (if they're not at 155, they're probably one of the national firms who went to 180 everywhere, e.g., PH, JD, Fish, Finnegan, etc.), so be careful not to out yourself.

To answer your question substantively, most Atlanta firms are very compressed compared to NY and other major markets, but not that compressed.

Interested to hear more about bonus and market raises, particularly on the A&B/K&S scale.

Does Atlanta have larger practices in any of the particular transactional areas? Basically if you were to try to lateral as a midlevel from NYC, would experience in M&A, Securities, PE, Funds, Banking etc. be most desirable?

Isn't this a big change from before? I thought it used to be way more compressed. Weren't fourth years at $155k before when the starting was $135k?
Yes I think the pre-raise KS pay was: $135k, $140k, $145k, $155k, 165k, $175k, $185k, $190k

And just to be clear this is for non-patent

can someone corroborate what the new atlanta lock step is? i went back and found this post, but want some confirmation given the anon incorrectly noted that it started at $160k after the raise last summer. can i basically just add $20k to the old lockstep?

also, any insight in atlanta bonuses would be appreciated.

K&S is 155, 160, 175 first 3 years. Not sure beyond that. Also I’m pretty sure K&S is the only ATL HQ firm that is actually lockstep. Maybe Alston too but definitely nowhere else.

After 170 it's 185 then to 200.

Paul Hastings Atlanta is on the NY scale FYI ($180k first year). Not sure what Jones Day is at but they might be too.

I believe that Jones Day in Atlanta is $180 for the first year, but black box after that. Also, I don't think they pay bonuses, it's just factored into your salary, whatever that ends up being.

K&S is in lockstep with the typical V secondary market bonuses. IMO Atlanta is a secondary bonus market since housing isn’t nearly as expensive as NYC, DC, LA, etc.

It matters too if the firm uses local rates or national billing rates. If the firm is charging clients like NY associates while paying Atlanta overhead, they can argue the Atlanta associates don't need the higher salary, but the firm is the one actually profiting off that. If they are using lower rates in order to attract more regional business (most Atlanta firms), then by all means the salary should be reduced.

My anecdotal data from 2017 OCI:
T14, below median grades, from the south (not Georgia)

Callbacks at several Atlanta big law firms, multiple offers. While great grades are obviously ideal, this thread makes it sound impossible to get a job there below median, when it certainly is not.

So where do we think Atlanta will land re: raises?

Feels like wishful thinking that raises will make their way down here. But then, you would like think KS will match to stay competitive in NYC, so they would have to give folks in ATL something (165?), which could make a new market standard at least a few firms would match (even though a few firms are already above 155). Here's hoping.

K&S moved around this time in 2016, followed by A&B a few days later and TS a few weeks after that. Maybe we'll hear something early this week...

That is the hope! Especially since Morgan is a peer firm and they just raised.

Edit: In spite of the new big tax breaks, as of 6/19 6 22 k&S remains silent.

This is for more experienced associates. The beginning scale is 165, 170, 185, 205. $7500 July bonus.

Good use of anon. CNNMoney says that 160k in Atlanta is equal to 385k in NYC (http://money.cnn.com/calculator/pf/cost ... index.html). Seems pretty good to me.

Same anon as above. Doesn’t matter. Paul Hastings raised to the NY scale today for all offices, and Jones Day will follow if they haven’t already. KS makes too much money not to pay the same scale in Atlanta.

Thoughts on the chances of getting a job for someone from the midwest, above median lower t-13? Even worth applying? My parents are retiring in the Pensacola area if that counts as a tie.
