I don't really know; it will vary state to state. When a State Supreme Court judge came to talk about clerkship at my school (T30) he said top 25% was required; but that grade distinctions within the top quarter did not make much of a difference since they just want clerks they can work well with.

If top 25% at a T30 is good enough, I would think that top 1/3 at MVP would be.
