Grades won't be known by students for at least a few weeks (maybe until June, according to the professor), but we (the message made it sounds like the others were contacted too) were given a sort of heads up. I don't think the instructor has ever failed students or given D's, so they thought it'd be better to warn in advance.

I don't know what to do, but I don't think it's worth sticking around. Campus is small and filled with gossip. People have and will get no offered this summer, and the guy who fails a class has to be near the top of the list.

I took a shot, tried my best and failed miserably, and now there's nothing to do but to move on. The shame and stupidity I feel is literally unbearable.

Thanks to anyone who listened. I'm deleting this account and then wrapping things up. Enjoy what you have while you have it!

I really hope the OP is okay. Getting a bad grade will not get you no offered by itself many times. A lot of firms have a really bad work product/puke on a partner's wife while drunk no offer policy, not a "mess up in one class" policy.

WTF did you do? At schools where "no one fails," failing an exam requires that you show up, spend a few minutes writing an answer to the first question, and then turn it in and leave. A good faith effort at taking the exam can't get you lower than a C. Unless you decided during the exam that you were sick of it and didn't want to finish, you shouldn't have gotten a D or F. Maybe there's been an error.

TLS is the best for that kind of thing-- This website has resources I wouldn't expect to find anywhere else, in terms of advice about how to handle every major and minor bump on the road and crisis that comes up. People here are genuinely selfless, despite all the snark that goes on in the lounge. I have been incredibly moved by a lot of what I've seen.

Failed a class (or got a D) at a school where no one fails. Will get no offered at both (borderline GPA will get killed). Too embarrassed to face anyone. Never felt this much shame or embarrassment, and it only keeps growing. I literally don't have the will to eat or sleep. Don't believe in an after life. Time to call it a ball game?

OP, if u were calling quits, half of my class would be dead by now, they didn't even get summer jobs. Life is about up and downs, and you are experiencing a little "down"ness, but you know what, it is nothing, the partners probably won't care. It's like 10 years down the line you are looking for a secretary, you won't care she failed sophmore advanced latin, your grades matter less b/c you've hired already.

Your life as many wonderingful things to offer in the future, you will look back and sees this is nothing.
