Callback flight change

I have a callback with an awesome company on the first day of spring break. Coincidentially, my family was planning on heading out to my inlaws (same city as the callback) on the same day, and planned on being there for all two weeks of spring break. Would it be weird to ask the firm to schedule my return flight two weeks later? I would prefer not to fly out and back, then buy a new ticket and head out again the next day.

i wouldn't expect asking would hurt. might as well try. obviously don't be e-mailing or calling the top partners. just find the HR person setting up that stuff.

I had to change my flight twice, they didn't seem to mind.

For some reason your avatar almost disturbs me.

I would seriously reconsider this before asking. At best, they will say no problem. At worst, someone might be weirded out that it kind of looks like you are in effect asking the company to help subsizide your airfare for your spring break vacation. All it takes to potentially not get an offer is someone thinking this is a little unprofessional and giving the offer to the other guy who was otherwise equal.

I personally wouldn't risk it, but to each his own.

edit: another option might be just not using the return flight purchased by the company and instead buying your own one way ticket for two weeks later. Not sure if they would ever even know about it that way.

Or you could just reschedule the return flight yourself since it'll be under your name. It could be as low as $50 to do this depending on the airline.

I made two scheduling requests last year: The first was extending my trip by two days to stay with my family, and the other was flying from a different (closer) city than the one where my law school is located. Both firms had no problems with this so long as there was no significant price differences. There is also something to be said for showing connections you have to the area by staying for awhile.

If you do ask, I suggest preemptively extending an offer to pick up any additional cost.

With that said, if you already have a return flight with your family, you could look cost-conscious and score points by only asking the firm to pay one way.
