Any system which rewards people for being involved in stupid clubs that send me spammy emails and FB invites to their events is a crappy system.

This be the truth. I hate clubs with a passion.

Nobody in the bottom half of your class will find a 50K job coming out. Funny how students seem to dream salaries like 35k and 40k into 55K jobs. If you wanted a 55K job next year then you should have started as a paralegal 3 years ago instead of going to law school.

So why aren't all the T30 classes cut in half after first year?

It isn't nearly as bad as people are saying. You can get a 50k job somewhere.

But there are still a lot of graduates who should drop out but don't. And that is a matter of pride: it'd be very embarassing to tell your family and friends that you couldn't cut it.

Plus, law students are very bad at math.

Bro, you keep asking, and people keep telling you: There is NO. WAY. that you will be making $55,000 coming out of the bottom-25% unless you find a job that is in another industry. Seriously.

I'm not sure if you're referring to OP specifically, but in general it totally depends on the individual. While of course the bottom 25% are worse off than top 25%, personal connections + prior work experience can create different opportunities.

I don't understand why everybody on TLS speaks so strictly about GPA cutoffs. Hiring, generally speaking, just doesn't work this way.

It will be extremely difficult unless you have family connections. I know people in this situation, but they have 150k in loans to pay back. Be thankful you are not them.

How bottom? Below median, something might work out. Bottom 25%, I genuinely don't think most of those people find any work whatsoever in the legal field. I wouldn't be surprised if they become paralegals.
Would firms even want someone with a JD to be acting as a paralegal? Seems like they'd be thought of as "over-qualified" and labeled as flight risks.
Suffolk's OCI is mostly firms looking for paralegals or staff attorneys. Those lucky enough to be top 10% etc may have a decent shot at a non-associate position - Suffolk is bottom of the barrel though - but this does happen.

because then 50%-75% would become the new bottom of the class. Thank goodness for math.

Also, two Arnolds with spelling modified to the accent in the same thread is blowing my mind.

I think the credited answer is the fact that they just want them to keep paying tution. Hiring isn't strictly based on your class rank, obviously...it's also based on the prestige of the school, i.e. the caliber of the average student. If Cooley dropped the bottom 99.5% of their class after 1L then their 2L OCI would look like Yale's OCI, would it not?
Yeah, I was just kinda being a smartass

I think you guys misunderstood the question. People who go to T30s are not stupid for the most part. If it were blatantly obvious that they would not even be able to get a low-level legal job at the 25% of the class (or anywhere below median), why would they continue paying tuition (unless they were on close to a full ride)?

Wow I still can't believe it will be hard for someone at T30 between 25 percentile and median to find a 50k legal job coming out...economy will continue to be this bad in 2 years when we graduate?

I guess I might have to tap into my connections with Google/Verizon legal department, and some V10 firms...if the job situation really is this bad.
