Also, what are my chances at the following firms (DC): Williams & Connolly, Covington & Burling, Arnold & Porter, Steptoe & Johnson, Howrey?

Thx in advance.

 wtf?

Top 10% at GULC has a shot at any firm, no questions asked. Probably fairly long odds at W&C and the like just because they're so small, but to suggest OP is locked out of the V5 (including the great but notoriously less selective Skadden) is farcical, as is suggesting that you can predict based on vault ranking that lower firms would definitely be offers.

OP - you'll be in a great spot and have a chance everywhere. It'll come down to where you click, how you're experience meshes with the firm's needs, and how you do second semester. DC can be harder to crack in particular because many firms look for people with experience relevant to DC centric practice (regulatory work, congressional work, etc. - not mandatory, but a noticeable boost if you have it / blemish if you don't).

V5 is possible w/ worse grades.

FWIW I am a GULC alum:

W&C: You have a shot if you have a great interview or otherwise have something unusual to add, but they are really looking for top 5%.
Covington: Same as above.
A&P: Reasonably good shot.
Steptoe: Reasonably good shot.
Howery: #1 person at Yale won't be able to get an offer at Howery.

Assuming those grades don't change much (and they probably will), you will get biglaw somewhere unless you terrible at interviewing.

Really, almost all firms are in play except places that don't care for GULC (Wachtell). W&C will prefer Top 5%. They took a couple GULCers this year.

But seriously, don't count your chickens before the spring semester grades come in.

Current GULC student in the top 10%, FWIW. Here's what I would say:

V5: absolutely out at WLRK (doesn't recruit at Georgetown). Possibly in at Skadden or DPW.
V10: probably callback
V25: callback and probably offer
V25-V100: offer
W&C: out. they're looking for top 5%
Covington: probably not, but a few people with these stats will get in
A&P: callback
Steptoe: offer
Howrey: Howrey literally is going to not exist by March. They pay much less ($100K in cash) than any other big firm in DC. Why are you even asking about it?

No GULC has gotten hammered. Top 10% won't get you any firm. It will get you Skadden though, so NYC V5 is possible.

^ I know people who weren't even Top 10 who got V5s (DPW, for instance) this year. So it's very possible. GULC has gotten "hammered" if you're below Top 3rd, definitely; it's much harder but even then people have had let. Either way, if you're above Top 1/3, bid smartly, interview well, and you'll do fine.

Back in the boom times, people who were barely top 1/3 would get Skadden. In fact, I think the average GPA for people going to Skadden was in the 3.4 range when I was applying (co 2010 with stats using 04-09 data).
