I've a question about the resume verification some law firms run on applicants before taking them on.

Basically, I listed a job (not law related - doesn't even require a high school degree) on my application that likely can't be verified. The company has since gone under, and I was paid largely under the table. I don't think I broke any laws, as I never made enough to pay any taxes, but there is really no way to verify this job (no W-2, no tax returns, etc.)

If I explain this to the firm, how problematic could this be? Anybody have similar experiences?

I ran my own business for about 2 years, yet it was completely under the table. No way for me to verify what I did either. But I don't think its a problem at all honestly.

Haha. Same. Should I put myself as my reference? I think I'm capable of objectively evaluating my performance.

welll...since law firms don't have access to W-2s.....you can just list someone as a reference who can verify your self-employment .

It wasn't self employment though, and I haven't talked to my employer in years. I doubt I could get a hold of him.

TBH I don't see this being a problem, but, like a good neurotic law student, I'm a bit nervous.
