I am currently looking for job openings in my city. I have a Bachelor's Degree in History (strong research and analytical skills). I was just wondering if I wanted to work for a law office with no specific experience as a legal assistant, how would I go about drafting a cover letter? Should I let them know I am planning on going to law school and I want to build work experience in a firm? Any input is appreciated!

Job Description:Our personal injury firm seeks an experienced, astute, personable individual, with strong verbal skills, good with people and able to handle a diverse case load. Should be results oriented and self-motivated. Personal injury experience and 1-2 years college preferred. Income commensurate with skills and results...

Same boat - it is an awkward circumstance with the whole "I'm going to be going to LS in 8 months" thing. I would say if you can not lie but not say you are for sure going to law school next year, maybe that you are considering it, but only if asked. Its not something you want to be forward about.

Watch out for Craiglist though. Almost all of the legal type job ads on my city's CL seem to be the scams where they just get your resume/contact info for marketing purposes. I've only seen a handfull that actually list the office name/website or have a real email to reply to. I didn't even get a reply for a $7.50 File Clerk job with a real firm. Seems like nobody today wants to hire someone with two degrees and a halfway decent resume for min wage jobs :(
