Legal Assistant/Case Manager

I am currently looking for job openings in my city. I have a Bachelor's Degree in History (strong research and analytical skills). I was just wondering if I wanted to work for a law office with no specific experience as a legal assistant, how would I go about drafting a cover letter? Should I let them know I am planning on going to law school and I want to build work experience in a firm? Any input is appreciated!
