All of you criticizing Patriot1208 act as if 80% of population in NYC-big cities in general make 160,000 + per year and is the norm, and that is not the case. Some of the figures that curtain posters are presenting to validate their points are incorrect to say the least.

160,000 is alot of fucking money period. To say anything different or even remotely contrary shows a lack of gratitude and a sense of entitlement that sickens me.

What you chose to do with it is your problem, but most of NYC does make less than 160k. Why dont you go tell them that 160k is a "pittance"? Fucking retards

I would add that NYC is particularly exorbitant in its taxes in all their varied forms...However what amounts to over 13 grand a month is not a pittance by any stretch unless you speak from the perspective of a Kennedy

anyway, you should just worry about the kind of work/life balance you'd like for yourself and not make sweeping judgments about the standards other people set for themselves.

When I was writing I thought maybe he is one of those 'success stories' but brah most people from humble backgrounds would neva say some shit like that. Life expectancy at birth was 55 years. Lets take 15 years off the bottom by assuming people don't work from age 0 to 15.
$500 x 40 yrs = $20,000

If you earn $160,000 a year, you make 320 times what someone makes in Liberia.
If you earn $160,000 a year, in one year you make as much as EIGHT people in Liberia make in their LIFETIMES.
Essentially, you can work for one year, move to Ethiopia and retire, enjoying a life-style at least FOUR times as extravagant as the people around you assuming you live twice as long as them.

This analysis is flawed in two major ways
1) It doesn't take into account the crazy taxes you pay.
2) It doesn't take into account the fact that your salary goes up above $160k over time.
These two things don't cancel each other out, but they do pull in opposite directions.

It's pure luck that we were born in a nation that provided us with such an amazing education and the resources to make it to where we were - if the dice were rolled differently we'd be the ones with the distended stomachs having to weave baskets to make ends meet on a dollar or two a day. Don't pretend like anything over $20,000 a year isn't more than enough to live on, it's not - that's what my family made when I was growing up in California and we lived very comfortably.

What's the rent in Liberia and Russia? Seriously that is a stupid comparison. After you get done paying basic expenses, a fat student loan payment and taxes, the remainder looks more like a pittance.

Actually, living expenses in Moscow are very very high. The rest of Russia is cheap.

All that said... 160k is a ton of money. Even with debt. My friends and I live very very comforably in NYC.

The problem is that many of these kids startig earning and then immediately start spending. As a result, it becomes difficult to consider opportunities offering less than that.

As for success stories: sure, most of my class is earning that or more. I also know a couple of kids that are still unemployed!
