1L Summer Clerkship interview - what to expect?

I have an interview coming up in two weeks for a v50 firm in Houston. What should I expect in this interview? I haven't even gotten first semester grades back yet, so I thought I'd get at most an informational/screening interview, but since it's scheduled for 4+ hours, I'm guessing it's the equivalent of a call-back. (maybe?)

So...for people who went through the process last year (or even this year), what questions should I expect and what kind of questions should I ask them? I googled them and it seems like they typically have two partners interview you and then two associates interview you.

It sounds like a 1L SA interview not a clerkship.

SA = firm clerkship, especially in texas

I tried to re-edit the title, but alas, using the anonymous feature prevents that

I just had an interview with a midsize firm (250 attorneys). It was 2 hours in total, but it was four separate interviews with 2 interviewers in each. One a partner, and one an associate. I agree that it was more of a screening/get-to-know-me interview. I don't have grades back, so they have nothing to base my work ethic on except for maybe the law school I go to (top 30).

I imagine once I get my grades, I'll send them my transcript and they'll make a decision. It has a killer salary, so I'm crossing my fingers that i won't have to work for free this summer.

Good luck to you

Also just had an interview at a mid-size firm in a smaller market where I grew up for a 1L SA job. 5 different interviews with 4 partners and 1 associate. A bit different for me because I have a relative on the hiring committee and they rushed me in this week as I was leaving town. I know I wouldn't have gotten the interview without the contact and I have no grades yet. Also, I'm at a T25.

As far as questions, they were all things you would expect. Why law school, questions about things on my resume, why their firm, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary. As for questions I asked, I researched my interviewers and asked questions about their practice group regarding things that piqued my interest. Also questions about the summer program that weren't listed on the website.

Not quite sure how it went as I've never done this before, but it was kind of fun. And also terrifying.

so it's more likely that for these longer interviews, it would be the equivalent of a call-back interview you think? granted, they don't have my grades yet, but i have decent work experience in the financial sector so i'm thinking they're granting the interview off that alone. also non-t14 here.

Yeah, I think so. I also have prior work experience, so maybe that is something that law firms like alot. I'd bet the firms would be more willing to hire someone with work experience and slightly lower grades, than someone straight from undergrad with slightly better grades.
Let us know if you hear back, good luck

Many of the biglaw firms in my major metro area interviewed anyone who sent them a resume. Two even hosted meet-and-greets with free booze. They all told us to send our grades when we received them. Once they get the grades, they hire the few at the very top (unless you have a connection).

Yes, they may give you an interview. No, you still don't have a shot unless you're at the top.

I highly doubt that any firm would interview everyone that sent in a resume, especially one in a major city. Also, it takes a lot more effort on a firm's part to grant 5 hr interviews to each candidate than to host a meet and greet with booze for dozens of attendees at a time.

Did they say anything about when you would be notified? I sent my casual thank you emails after the interviews and one of the senior partners responded that he thought the hiring committee would contact me soon, but I feel rather in the dark about when and if I'll hear back.

I don't expect to hear back for a while. They do most of their interviewing at spring OCIs (Jan/Feb). I think I was the first or one of the first few people they interviewed.
