FML? Already accepted an unpaid one.
Don't feel bad. I did the same with a $2,000 job. Accepted one that pays about $750 before I was offered the other...........

I suppose I could have, but I sent in a written acceptance for the other one before I was offered at the second job (accepted one day and was offered the next before I could withdraw). I'm also not a big fan of breaking my word -- especially when it is to a firm in the area I want to work in when I graduate.

For those of you who've interviewed for 1L summer firm jobs, about how long between phone/onsite interview and response/rejection?

Gotcha.
Well, to the anon user, you can
absolutely back out. Just cite your financial situation and say it really requires you to take the paid gig and let them know promptly. They can't be upset that someone took a job that pays thousands a week over a job that is unpaid. I know for a fact that this is kosher.

hmmm..not sure about that. Because he knew his financial situation BEFORE accepting a non-paying job and if the situation was such that he could not afford to work for free, he probably wouldnt have accepted. I think backing out makes your school look bad [thats what we are told] and you should never do that.
yeah, its 1k a week...but its also a very small world and this 8-10k wont mean much if one day you find yourself interviewing w the same person again.

Just got dinged from a judge where I felt the interview was flawless. No idea why. Either way, I have a firm interview on friday but after that I am just assuming unemployment since just about half my entire class has interviewed with the DAs office and I wouldn't say my interview was my best work.

Back out, and make the money. ITE the PI will be able to find a law student willing to fill the spot.

It's a little late for that. I withdrew all of my outstanding applications and rejected the other offers that came later once I accepted the initial offer.

If you got denied at a mid sized firm. But your interview with the hiring partner went well (they winded up not taking any 1Ls), do you think it is at all appropriate to send a letter to the partner, expressing your continued interest in the firm. I'd like to keep him in my "network," and express my interest in a possible position next year.

I am applying to a county prosecution office and it asks to give details on a separate attachment if you have been convicted of any federal law, state law, etc. I have a retail theft ordinance violation from five years ago. Obviously I need to disclose this, but my question is whether it needs to be "addendum-like" and include a "what-I-learned" section? I feel since it is a bit more serious than your typical violation it may be appropriate to do so, but I'm not sure.
For what it's worth, do you think this is a big issue for my application since it is a prosecutor's office?

Varies. Offers anywhere between 2 and 12 days from interview. Rejection came within 3 days of interview (though I knew, there, that I was the last one to do a CB).
And I accepted a job today
Dream firm, dream city, still in disbelief.

Thanks. That's great, congrats!
But if the wait is longer than that, do you have the sense that no news is more likely good or bad news? And is there a point beyond which contacting a firm re. interview outcome is warranted?

Phone. It was awkward.
And @Dr.Dolittle: Thanks! I wouldn't say that you're a ding, yet. I've had friends here get 1L offers after 4 weeks of waiting. It's easier if you know how many interviews were after you, and how many spots they have; if you were last, or if they have multiple spots and it's been 3 weeks, your chances diminish (but still aren't completely kaputt).

I'm starting to get worried I won't have anything for this summer after 1L. Only about 3 of my applications haven't been rejected yet and I still have no interviews. I didn't apply to firms because I wanted Public Interest work, but still... Did I do something wrong?
I assume it's too late to try a letter writing campaign to local firms.

24 hours for an acceptance. I was very surprised by the response time.
