Scalia
Dissent in PGA v. Martin
Yes, because an originalist decision can reasonably command 5 justices.

I don't think the third question was a "yes or no" question...

Wonder if the judge would have accepted 19th century Marshall as an answer...

The correct answer is: "Rehnquist. Because he's dead."

I knew nothing about this judge's political/judicial leanings (honestly, how the hell would you even go about finding out re: magistrate judge?), so I went with SDOC (LOL), but wow, talk about being totally unprepared for an interview. I've done pretty close to half a dozen federal judge/magistrate interviews up to this point and I think the hardest hitting question I had before was, "What was your favorite class and why?" or maybe "Why law school?".

Also, what Coolgrnmen said in regards to Q #3.

Dillema: I have an interview tomorrow where they explicitly told me not to wear a suit. They actually told me that I could just wear whatever I wore to class, but, clearly, I'm not going to do that. This leaves me with business casual. However, all of my business casual attire has gotten a little snug (so a diet starts NOW). It fits, but, I don't think it looks very good - you can very clearly see the outline of my hips in the pencil skirt, and it's a few inches above my knee. So my other option is a black pencil skirt with a blouse (I tend towards flowy tops). But, this in my opinion looks rather dressy, when they explicitly told me not to be dressed up. What do you guys think I should do?

I had an interview like this, I think that this is a pretty common line of questioning.

I see the "originalists" continuing to misinterpret the Constitution as a pro-state document in order to advance their political agendas.

Maybe every single interview that I've done with a federal judge and all the interviews my friends have done are all the exception then.

If my interview on Monday is like this, I am just going to get up and walk out.

I had a bunch of judicial intern interviews (including fed.), and no.

Not sure if it is a common line of questioning for judicial itnshps, haven't applied for any of those.

Follow-up: Was offered the position today. I guess my incoherent babbling about my favorite SCOTUS judge wasn't as bad as I expected.

SA cb interview went pretty well. It was kind of tough to adjust to switching rooms and interviewers every 20-30 minutes because just as time ran up was when I felt like I was really clicking with the interviewers. Overall I'm happy with my interview performance, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

My sentiments exactly. Just asked the firm if they could make a decision by the same deadline to accept that other offer I mentioned a few pages ago. So I'll know fairly soon one way of the other.

What's your timeline bro?

Just got an email from a female law clerk saying they want to schedule an interview. I replied with "Dear Mr....". Well, I guess there will be no interview for this one....

2 weeks until I find out if I'm a lucky bastard or if I have to beg to do research for my civ pro professor. I'm hoping that since I clicked the best with the head honchos at the firm (named partner 1 and named partner 2) that a good word from them will go a long way.

Got an interview offer from Chief Justice of my home state's Supreme Court. Really excited about it. Given that this is where I want to practice, I would say this is the absolute ideal position for me this summer, even above a district court or magistrate judge internship. Gotta rock this one. My interview total went from 2 to 6 in a week, with this one being the best so far. Guess a lot of judges are still in the hiring process.

I earlier posted my response email from a SA position: "We hope to let you know by the end of next week. Let us know if anything comes up with your candidacy in the meantime".

End of next week is NOW. I am dying with every email that comes into my inbox, lol.

If I don't hear back tomorrow, I may go insane.
