I've got call back interviews with 4 v100 firms lined up over the next couple of weeks for 1L SA positions.
While the rest of my classmates are struggling over getting unpaid internships. I know it isn't nice but I feel extra cocky around school now.

Here's to hoping second semester will smack him and teach him a valuable lesson about humility. I tend to think that law school feeds on cockiness and rewards the humble.dakatz wrote: Ha. I guess I never realized how important and how admirable humility is until you see such terrible cockiness around you (Mr. 4 callbacks being a prime example). Makes me so appreciative that my parents stressed humility to me since I was young.beach_terror wrote:Here's to hoping second semester will smack him and teach him a valuable lesson about humility. Same boat unfortunately. A few judges told me they wait until March to interview so I hold out hope. I'm gonna try and rock the 2 interviews I have. If I get an offer on the spot, I'll be all too happy to accept.goosey wrote:am i the only one without a summer job still?

Digest the website. Take a look at their clients. See if the website talks about any recent cases. Also, look carefully at the practice areas and make sure your questions and answers match up with the kinds of work the firm actually does. Call the recruiter and ask for a list of people you will be interviewing with. Then you can look up their profiles. It sounds stalkerish, but it's really not. For example, you don't want to bring up some case you read about on the website and then find out the attorney you're talking to works in a different department entirely. I scored some points with one interviewer because I asked him about a law review note he wrote years before. I wasn't trying to kiss ass. I was genuinely interested in the note, and he made a positive comment about me having "done my homework" before the interview. Some interviewers are turned off if you get too personal, so I wouldn't say anything like, "so, I noticed you were cum laude." But it's fine to probe the website for information, unanswered questions, and ice breakers.tarheel87 wrote:I have an interview coming up with a midlaw firm I really really want, but I just realized I have no idea what I'm going to do/ask/say/respond...
Also, see if the firm has a NALP profile. The rule of thumb is not to ask any question that you could have found the answer to on your own.

lol. I know. I've been a slacker this semester. After posting that I went and wrote a cover letter for a judge to feel like I was doing something to counter the feelings of loserhood.

1L, top 10% at a t-25.
I sent out a ton of apps to fed courts and some firms that hire 1L's around 1/15, I knew it was late but I was hoping for one positive response. Now I've gotten rejections from about 2/3....where the hell should I be applying now in early February to end up with something good enough for biglaw next year?

Firms don't care about what you do during your 1L summer.Anonymous User wrote:1L, top 10% at a t-25.

Check out if your CSO has a copy of it. Incredibly helpful for interview prep, among countless other things.

Re: 1L summer job application apathy/encouragement thread
Waiting for post-interview decisions is like waiting for grades all over again. It's gonna be a long few weeks (which is the timeline I was given). Now, as I wait and they conduct more interviews, I just keep wondering how many more people I'm up against for those 1 to 2 slots available at the jobs I really want.

Also w/ out anything lined up yet. Starting to get a bit anxious. A few interviews/ screeners lined up, but at this point I'm willing to accept ANYTHING just to get the anxiety off my back :/

How long's a typical wait after a screening interview?
Do callbacks mostly take place during spring break or do they involve missing class?

you'll know about a callback typically within a day or so, and the callback takes place within a week or two.DeSimone wrote:How long's a typical wait after a screening interview?

What is a typical callback/offer ratio (if there is one)?

There isn't one. Depends on the firm. Some firms call back tons of people, so people offer most of the people they call back.DeSimone wrote:Thanks.f0bolous wrote:you'll know about a callback typically within a day or so, and the callback takes place within a week or two.DeSimone wrote:How long's a typical wait after a screening interview?

Re: 1L summer job application apathy/encouragement thread
Yeah, I was asking this same question last week but I've learned that there definitely isn't one. And I think that the "usual" trends about 2L callbacks don't all hold true for 1L callbacks. Instead of getting an offer within a few days, most people I know who had 1L SA's in years previous didn't hear for weeks.DeSimone wrote:Thanks.f0bolous wrote:you'll know about a callback typically within a day or so, and the callback takes place within a week or two.DeSimone wrote:How long's a typical wait after a screening interview?

The firms don't have to rush as much to make a decision, which sucks for us because they can take a long time, during which they can interview however many damn people they please. Every 1L interested in Biglaw is probably interested in getting an SA, so all the firms really have to sacrifice is their partners' time (which is, of course, quite valuable). A firm could callback 10 people for 1 position if it wanted to.
