Touched base with alumni partners via email asking them about their practices. Some of them responded, answering my questions. What should be the next step for me to create a contact?

Ask more questions, suggest lunch. You should know how to carry on a conversation at this stage of your life...

I do know how to conduct a conversation, just do not want to step over you know. You think it would be appropriate to suggest lunch after a couple of emails?

Yes. Just say thanks for the response, and suggest lunch to talk more after you get back to school in January. They'll more than likely say yes, and tell you to contact them then. I met with a lot of firm partners like this. They like to talk about themselves, their success, their firm. They are usually more than happy to talk to alums. It may not lead to a job at their firm, but the advice you get will be invaluable.

If you're extra concerned about the way you come off, pm me your response, and I'll tell you if you sound like a douche.
