I agree with the anonymous poster that says to plan on only lasting 2-5 years at any big law firm. That is a smart approach.

Faegre is a good firm, but I never got the impression that morale was high there even during the good times (circa 2007). Even though the impression around the city was that Faegre was gaining on or had passed Dorsey, younger associates seemed really uncertain of expectations. After the layoffs last year, I don't see how morale could be any better.

That said, Faegre maintained good offer rates even two summers ago, which cannot be said of Dorsey. And Faegre does do sophisticated, important work. If I were working in the TC, I would go to Faegre or Dorsey. Oppenheimer is nice in a way because billables are less and the people are nice. Before the depression, I would have told you that your exit options coming from Faegre would be better than Oppenheimer, but I'm not entirely certain that that's true anymore. It seems that smaller firms (really small firms) are the only places that people can lateral to these days.

For the poster that wants to work in D.C., go to a top D.C. firm if you can. A lot of those firms are basically revolving doors into government, and vice versa. If you go to Faegre, the USAO will be your only real federal option in the TC.

Right, but I also heard that they would be making some additional offers. I was just wondering if those offers have gone out yet this week.

Additional offers as in, they're making their SA program larger than 10 2Ls as they said it would be this year, or as in they aren't done making offers? I am working for Faegre this summer, so I am just repeating what I've heard. I don't mean to shatter your hopes, I'm just telling you what others in the firm have told me.

As in they are not done making offers to get to 10 2L's. I was told by recruiting that they were going to make offers this week. I have not received one, so i'm wondering if i should be expecting a letter in the mail.

I'm the commentator you just responded to-- I'm not sure then. If that's what they said, I doubt they'd be trying to Rouse you. Good luck! I chose Faegre over Dorsey, Oppenheimer (which was a hard decision), RKMC, Lindquist, and Gray Plant. I think it is a terrific firm, underrated nationally, and I also think they're looking for as many upbeat people to recover from the attitude slump experienced from last year (twenty some layoffs of your co-workers and/or friends can do that to a person). Hope you get it!

I declined my offer from Faegre today, so perhaps (?) I opened up an offer for someone else in this thread.
