Do firms no offer after the summer because of 2L grades?

And if so which firms and how bad do the grades need to be?

Yes, but this question has come up twice now in a week, at least. Search function may not work, but clicking back a page or two does.NYAssociate wrote:The search function isn't working.chipchip wrote:Dude. There's a thread on this very issue on the second page of threads (at this point in time) in this section of the forum. Search a little.
Short answer: Some do (e.g. Gibson), but not all.
How big of a grade drop does Gibson tolerate?NYAssociate wrote:Honestly, just try not to get any B-s or below. Regarding Gibson Dunn, I've heard the same thing (and I've heard of no-offers based on poorer grades, and even rejection of laterals).

I don't know either, but as someone going to Gibson this summer, I'm not too worried about it. Sure, they care more than other firms and only have a 90% offer rate or so, but think about it logically. First, you made their grade cut-off the first go round (and from what I understand they have a fairly high cut-off), so unless you think your 1L grades were a miracle or you were a gunner who spent all your time in the library, chances is your grades won't significantly drop off.Anonymous User wrote:How big of a grade drop does Gibson tolerate?NYAssociate wrote:Honestly, just try not to get any B-s or below. ROFLMFAO at Gibson being selective.Anonymous User wrote:I don't know either, but as someone going to Gibson this summer, I'm not too worried about it. Second, why would they care about grades when they know your work capabilities? They probably want you to look good on paper for clients. Clients wont see your transcript, so whether you look good on paper is based on graduation honors, clerkship, LR, school. Since you can't change the last two, just make sure you keep honors. At a relatively lower ranked school, an SA is probably on track for magna, try not to lose that; at somewhere like H or CCN (omitted S&Y b/c no graduation honors) an SA is probably on track or "with honors" or "cum laude," so try to make sure they know you'll have that credential.
Bottom line: They want people who look smart on paper, and they wouldn't have hired you just to no-offer you. Just keep doing what you're doing and I'm sure you'll be fine from a grades perspective.
Again, want to be clear that this is speculation; I have no first hand knowledge and could be wrong, but this is what I tell myself, at least.
