Latham DC or Paul Weiss NY?

Trying to decide between both. Doing second visits and such, but wanted to get some opinions.

I'm interested in litigation. While white collar work is appealing, I'm open to other areas and don't want to pidgeonhole. Corporate isn't really something I see myself doing. I don't plan (at the moment) on staying in BigLaw more than 5 years, and I consider government as my primary goal for exit options, though I have international interests as well.

In terms of the intangible (i.e. the people), Latham attorneys definitely had a more relaxed vibe than the attorneys I've met at Paul Weiss. Not sure if that was just the interview setting or if it's par for the course (any thoughts?). I could see myself either in DC or NY, though I do have a preference for DC for the long term.

What are opinions on QoL, general responsibilities given to juniors (e.g. does one give more doc review than the other, does the fact that PW have 80 summers basically mean I have no chance at developing good relationships with partners early on, etc.), training, etc.?

And yes, I know about the layoffs. Everyone knows about Latham. But my understanding is that DC was more insulated from those problems, no?

Appreciate it. I have a couple of weeks to decide (and there are other firms but I'm not really keen on them).

Any particular reason why those who voted, voted the way you did?

Latham DC associates appeared to have gotten lathamed at about the same rate as other Latham associates.

paul weiss is usually thought of as a "doc review sweatshop" but i dunno the reality. your #1 priority is still having that job in 5 years though for your plan to work, so i'd go with paul weiss. if somehow you find out some other firm is the firm for you, paul weiss might also make 3LOLCI less lolzy to try, also.

I'd actually go with Latham DC. If your true goal is exiting to government, DC is where you want to be at. Plus, one of the top two-three appellate shops in the country.

QOL will be MUCH better in DC.
