I now have a status that says "selected for further consideration" ... what does THAT mean?

So in sum...

Application received by DOJ ---> Referred to components ---> selected for further consideration ---> ????

Some SLIP participants get job offers at the end of the summer, but I don't think they're spots in the Honors program specifically.

When I did SLIP, my department decided not to make ANY funnel offers. Zip, nada, zilch. However, if they do make you a funnel offer, it's considered part of the honors program. You can still apply to the Honors program after not getting a funnel offer, and I understand it's looked upon favorably that you did SLIP- assuming your reviews are good. I ended up not applying to Honors because I had a firm offer on the table.

I've heard that at least some departments are in a budget crunch, which may influence things.

How did you get a firm offer if you did SLIP during the summer? Did you split?

I did a joint degree, so I got an extra summer. Was an SA 2nd summer and a SLIP 3rd. Several SLIP people did split though. SLIP only requires 6 weeks.

Could you also comment on what your understanding of the boost was for SLIP people in regards to the Honors program? Thanks.

Do you remember what the status change was like on your application? I think more than a few of us are confused...

From the Avue website, under "Community":

We anticipate that most of the SLIP notifications will go out next week. The U.S. Attorney's Offices for the District of Wyoming and the Western District of Oklahoma accellerated their reviews. Candidates selected by those two offices have already been notified.

If I remember correctly (although it is a bit hazy), it was "referred to components" in late September, and then changed to "Selected for Interview" about a week after that. I got an email soon after to set up the interview (which was done by phone). Offer came 3rd week of October-ish.

Could you also comment on what your understanding of the boost was for SLIP people in regards to the Honors program? Thanks.

I really couldn't tell you what the boost is like. They keep your file around after you leave to evaluate you if you ever apply to the DOJ later on down the line.

Do you mean "Referred to Components" or "Application Received by DOJ"?

I'm still on "Application Received." Certain DING?

Mine went to selected for further consideration today, too. Does anyone know what the correlation between this and offers is? And which divisions generally don't interview?

Are any of you, like me, going to have to make a decision on expiring offers before your DOJ fate is known (or already accepted hoping for a split)? I know about the NALP rules allowing students to hold one offer open until word comes about a public-interest position, but that's a signal I don't really want to send should I end up at the firm.

Honestly, if it was me, I would take firm job. You have a better chance of getting a job after the SA at a law firm than at DOJ.

Honestly, if it was me, I'd rather have my cake and eat it too (split firm and DOJ).

Status changed from "Application received by DOJ" directly to "Selected for Further Consideration" within the past two days.

UVA 3L entering clerkships; applied to SG's Office, OLC, Civil (Appellate, Fed. Programs, Comm. Lit., and Torts), in that order. Obviously, no idea yet which one "selected me for further consideration."

Mine just switched to "selected for further consideration" this morning. So happy! I got some firm offers from my school's interview program, but the whole process reaffirmed my commitment to working for the government.

Does anyone know if "selected for further consideration" necessarily means that one is going to get an interview?

Can everyone who reported a status switch to "referred for further consideration" but didn't list their component preferences go ahead and list those? Thanks!
