And is there any chance at all of you saying which civil branch? I know the #s of people are small, but just wondering...

Someone needs to contact me from the DOJ soon or else I'm going to go against my better judgment and stalk them until I figure out what "finalist" means...no. self. control.

the DOJ isnt going to care if you ask them. Or you can ask your career center.

I wonder why antitrust is the only branch moving

My only theory is that because many of the antitrust field offices take only two or three people they also interview a very small number. Makes it easier to get moving on offers quickly. The only other offers we've heard of in this thread are from Civil Appellate (taking only three people total) and the USAO for Wyoming, which took a single person.

Hrm..good theory, but my division doesn't do interviews. They do, however, take 16 people and have to distribute those people based on geographic prefs.

Anyone have any info on what divisions did or did not issue funnel offers to SLIP interns last yer?

Possibly. I mean, it's almost certain that they've started to separate probable offers and alternates. But I think another equally reasonable explanation for the staggered contact from Civil is that the sub-branches are moving at different rates. Since none of us can know what sub-division we're in, it'd be hard to compare.

there's no doubt that interbranch differences make this incredibly hard to predict. but i do know that fed. programs and appellate have started to interview, and i think we can safely assume that a number of finalists on here who have yet to hear anything ranked those two branches (and not others).

Um... well I would be thrilled to get a job with any of them. I've never cared about prestige much at all, and I don't have any inside info about which ones are "worthwhile," but that's just how I feel.

Does anyone know how big of a role the interview plays in the decision process? Is it more of a formality, or do the division's choices really hinge on how the interviews go?

well, it doesn't seem like the branches are interviewing all of the finalists, so at least we're competing against a smaller pool. (knock on wood.) were your references contacted?
