'a lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client'

i bet it applys to firms as well

And, not all firms do professional liability defense work.

Perhaps having a deep bench for defending against professional liability claims is not what some firms would like to be known for.

The firm's malpractice carrier might have its own stable of preferred defense counsel. It's their money, after all.

Incidentally, Irell and Williams & Connolly do a lot of malpractice work (representing attorneys). It's good to be the firm other lawyers turn to.
