Strange feeling. Top 10% HYSCCN. I'm actually not that upset--maybe it just hasn't sunk in yet. But part of me thinks I might have just dodged a huge bullet, so long as I can figure out how to pay off my $200,000 or so in debt. Surprisingly not worried.

what kinds of jobs are you going to look for now? why aren't you so worried? it'll be hard to get hired with a no-offer when they ask about it.

Government and private sector. Maybe non-profit, depending upon the salary. I figure that top 10% HYSCCN is pretty competitive for lots of things. I don't need 160K to survive. Pretty flexible on location. I'm pretty competitive for clerkships too so I'm not looking for another month or so, depending upon how that goes.

Seems like most people here chase prestige anyway. If it's their highest ranked firm, they'll go there. If it's not, they won't. I'm just a statistic. Besides, I could be the guy that threw up on the partner's shoes for all anyone knows (I'm not, unless I blacked out).

I wanted to be a lawyer since I was 12 or so. Over 2L year I found myself moving away from that. It's not a good thing that I was no-offered, but it's not a uniformly bad thing yet, either.

If you don't mind me asking, is there anything about the summer in general terms which you believed contributed to the no offer?

Don't mind at all. I get the impression that it was a numbers game, despite the smaller than usual class. It could have been one mediocre review that slipped me up. That, and they may have got the impression at I wasn't 100% committed to Biglaw, which is probably true.

Sorry, dude. What was the offer rate like last year? Did you anticipate this happening?

I soft of had a feeling, but I'm neurotic like that. Offer rate last year was greater than 50%, smaller than 75%. I should note that I'm in a two-income household too, so the impact is less than it could be. An extra 100K would be nice, but not the difference between homelessness and shelter.

Thanks. I'm giving myself one night to get upset and drunk about it. After that, no regrets.

In a way, the no offer is liberating, especially for someone not convinced they wanted the Biglaw lifestyle. It's a little scary, but exhilarating as well.

To the forum: I wish more people would out which firms are no-offering. ATL paints a very rosy picture, but it's not exactly helpful since we know many other firms (or offices of firms with other offices boasting 100% offer rates) are putting their SAs in the OP's position.

Does ATL factor in cold offers in their rush to post champaign jpegs?
