The GULC OCI Thread

Post by jchoggan » Mon Aug 23, 2010 12:20 pm

Any good stories so far? Particularly tough interviews, immediate callbacks, big mistakes, etc... considering the sea of black suits and scared faces wandering the halls, I'm sure there has to be a few gems already.

Just posting to say best of luck to all the GULC 2Ls. EIW is a stressful time, but it can also be a great learning experience.

1L here, sorry to barge in on your thread, but I had a question: How many interviews did people get (particularly those who bid on DC firms)?

15 in DC, 0 elsewhere. (I bid DC firms only since I want to stay here). 8 came through the lottery, the rest through firms calling to set up separate interviews. Just under top 1/3 on secondary journal & WE. Not sure how many of these will translate to callbacks or how other folks fared who want DC only.... all I know is that competition is stiff.

I've heard as low as 5 for ppl aiming just at DC, but most were around 10. Some IP kids got 20 or more (10 from non-IP, 10 from IP). Most I heard from non-IP was 15, but that's aiming at secondary markets as well (I got 14 doing that).

Shows the benefits of being proactive during EIW. Nice job!

Back in '08, I got 21 interviews mixing DC/NY and secondary. Hopefully those days will return.

I heard one guy say he got 15 screeners, all DC, on the regular schedule. He said this in the context of showing how useless Career Services was in suggesting he not bid solely on DC. Claimed he was only interested in IP, but also claimed he didn't put any bids in on the IP schedule.

I had 12 non-IP (all NY), 9 IP, and 5 more non-IP from resume spam.

I had 17 total interviews. 13 to start... 4 through last chance bidding. Almost entirely DC and NY, more DC than NY.

Anyone hear from Gibson Dunn (specifically NY)? Also, did they have one of those dinners they have at other law schools?
