Telling them they're your first choice

Question. If a firm is my top choice, is it weird to tell them that?

If you just say "you are my top choice" in isolation it will sound insincere.

It would probably be better to tell them why you are their first choice. You should do so naturally and smoothly, and if possible include an achievement/anecdote that highlights a skill that makes you a good fit for the job.

Remember, it's about what they want, not what you want.

If they really are, then tell them. Don't tell them that if they aren't, though. I read a story about a student who told like 5 firms that and at some social networking thing, the topic of summer associates came up and the partners somehow figured it out...
