I really don't wanna work at Schulte since so many people got no-offerd in 2009. I can see that happening again. I don't care if Schulte pretends that it wants more Columbia students.

Schulte offered to 65% of its summer class in 2009. However, they offered something like 62/63 of their summers in 2010. Have you seen NALP data from other firms in 2009? Do you really think Schulte is all that different? Many comparable firms, and even some in the ranks of the V-50, only offered around 60% to its summer class in 2009. Bottom line: it was a really bad year across the legal profession. If Schulte has done this in past years, that's a different story. You really can't let data from that one year (when, you know, we were in the pit of the recession) affect your opinion of the firm.

Of course you can. You can argue about whether this is applicable to future years -- I do think it at least gives you some data on what they would do under times of financial pressure in the future. But what you can't dispute is that by looking at what a firm did at that time, you can learn a lot about its culture, what management values when making decisions, how it's managed in both a financial and human resource sense, etc.

+1. What happens if there is a double-dip recession, like many economists posit? You betta believe Schulte will do same thing. Anything else is just wishful thinking.

So, what should we do if we only have options from firms that acted similarly?[/quote]

I would just ask around to figure out which one is doing the best and seem to be the most stable. Places with a lot of people from CLS might be safer because they'll be more inclined towards CLS students.

And um, work really hard and be charming all summer? Even at 65% offer rate is better than most government and public interest places that offer only 10-50% of their summer interns. That means you just have be above median in being a summer associate.

This got real quiet. Am I the only one with no offer yet? Is anybody else still lost in the wilderness? If so, what are you doing?

Some friends of mine don't have offers yet. It takes a while.

I don't have an offer yet either. In fact, I still have a few callbacks to complete. Of the five callbacks I've done so far, all but one has told me they won't decide until they finish callbacks in late Sept/early Oct. It is, very frustrating. But, what can we do?

I've gotten some non-NYC offers recently, and I know several other people who have as well. The thing is that outside NY firms with big classes interviewing more or less simultaneously, CBs/offers are rare enough that it's hard to disclose and stay anonymous. At least that's my perception.

No offers here either. 4 callbacks with V40-V100, 4 dings. Taking out the extra money to transfer to Columbia isn't looking as smart as it did a month ago.

It seems like NY offers have died down.

Certainly nobody is posting about them anymore, but I still have 5 NYC callbacks to go on. The firms can't possibly be finished yet.

It is way way way to early to call an end to NYC offers. I still have three NYC callbacks left and firms taking smaller classes are going to wait and see some of what comes out of Harvard, NYU, etc before they make decisions. I seriously doubt this is the case.

To those that have gone on Winston CBs - were you asked to go to lunch? Were you asked for a list of references and/or a writing sample? I wasn't asked for any of these things - I'm thinking that is likely a bad sign...
