I got a callback from Latham tonight around 6pm from a partner with the initials RC. I interviewed the day after OCI ended.

You meant to say offer, right? Was RC the same attorney that gave you a screening interview?

Only a few firms (S&C, Cravath, Proskauer, Kirkland, Quinn and a couple of others) have given them. I'm only interviewing at one of those five, and not for a few days. At the other CBs I've been on, the Recruiting Dept has told me that the Hiring Committees have yet to even start meeting. Some firms hadn't even started INTERVIEWING until this week. So I assume you wait, because people simply aren't reporting offers from the other 96% of the V100.

They might be giving them. Not everyone at CLS goes on here.

Yes, but a quick look at other school OCI threads seems to confirm. Fact is, many rising 3Ls at Columbia didn't even receive their offers until a week or two into September (sourced from both OCS and a bunch of 3Ls I'm friends with). Hiring committees usually wait a few weeks into the season to start making decisions.

Yea sorry - offer. No, I was screened by an associate.

I think the 28 day window might have an impact on this. At a CB I was told something along the lines of first post above & told that it might take a couple weeks or more... I basically said that with an offer already out, two weeks would probably be too long -- they suggested that they will try to be quick about it. Firms do realize that if you have a particular offer you like for a while, you get attached to it and would be less likely to consider an offer that you get later on, so there's an incentive to turn you around more rapidly. I guess the point is that its best to schedule a CB with one of the quick turnaround firms early and then use that for leverage.

So at my callback today, I didn't get to meet with the recruiting department at all. Is it appropriate to contact them and ask about their schedule?

I don't see the harm, but you might want to check with OCS, you know?

This. Also check through this thread and other firm-specific threads to see if anyone else interviewed at the firm and knows what the turnaround is like.

Since yesterday was the Schulte dinner, maybe today we'll get the first offers? If anybody gets anything, please let us know.

Does anyone think the dinner affected people's chances at all, or were decisions likely already made? I think I would've preferred to mingle more on an open floor than sit at one table for 2 hours, but I still had a great time.

I got the impression decisions were already made.

If its true that the decisions were already made, why did they schedule the dinner at the time they did? Is there any logic to inviting a bunch of people to dinner that you plan on never seeing again? (I'm not saying there is no rhyme or reason to it -- maybe there is, but I can't think of it.)

it seems strange to spend money on people you never plan to see again, but maybe they had to use all their recruiting budget and had to use it all up

they told us they do it every year, so I'm sure there's some reason behind it

it's got to be the recruiting budget that they want to use up.

so what gave you the impression that offers were already made?
