I still haven't heard back from a bunch of firms I interviewed with back in mid August. Is there a chance there could be a two tiered callback, or are firms lazy with the snail mail this year? By the way, I also think that the GW CDO sucks.

Cindy sucks the most and she is the CDO director. If she were replaced I'm sure it would be infinitely better for all students. The problem is that she just doesn't give a fuck - she barely works, doesn't respond to any emails or calls and provides no helpful advice whatsoever. My favorite is her telling students "just network", without telling students HOW to actually network.

How about setting up some receptions with DC firms who were interviewing at OCI? A friend of mine who was conducting interviews for a firm who had a reception for Georgetown students, he conducted several informal interviews with people who attended, one of which ended up getting a CB. The school should be more proactive in creating networking opportunities.

Also, saying that OCI is just 10% of a job search is complete BS. If you want to work in big law, OCI is the job search.

Can I swing by GW's CDO and get a list of firms that came to OCI this year or as a 1L will such action send me to Hell?

I don't know if they'll give it to you, but more importantly, why would you want it?...concentrate on class, 1Ls can't do much of anything until December anyways

They wouldn't give it to me

I want it because I'm trying to be forward looking (for the first time in my life).

if you really want a bit of a heads up, go to the CDO page on the portal - the FRP Info packet, which has a list of past participating employers at the back, is posted under "Department Documents."

But seriously, this won't really help you until you have some grades, extracurriculars, and journal competition under your belt, since you won't know what realistic targets are for you and going through the whole list of roughly 200 employers is a waste of time.

Everything I've heard says that to secure a 1l summer firm job you need to apply December 1st so it's really not all that far away.

do you know how many people got 1L summer jobs last year? the number is probably less than 25 and likely less than 10. and of those most of them had EE/ME/CS degrees.

I am top 15%, no LR, think I interview reasonably well - 10 interviews, 6 rejections and 4 silence - no CB as of yet.

top 15%, LR: 6 CBs, 2 offers, 1 ding, 3 outstanding.

most of the firms are still doing callbacks & seem to do them on a rolling basis, so no news might be good news on those 4.

top 15%, LR, 13 CBs (accepted 9). post callback: 4 offers, 1 ding. 8 outstanding - some of which i did several weeks ago so i think there is definitely a "hold" pool still...

GW median is 140 in the first year out. Live frugally and you've payed off your loans in 2-3 years, less if you're making more.

Admittedly if you have $ from another school with a similar starting salary, then it may be worth it.
aston2412, have fun finding a 1L firm job. you are obviously very informed about the current state of the legal market and, considering that you're already asking about transferring to columbia and talking about how easy law school is, cravath and skadden will be dying to have you!

The CDO has this info for you in nice pie charts with 1L PI, gov, small firm, big firm, etc. Off the top of my head, non-IP full-time 1L SA last year was 4-5. IP big firm full-time 1L SAs was either 7 or 9.

I don't know if this thread is meant to be only for current GW students but if you guys could help me out I'd really appreciate it. What class rank would you guys say is necessary to give someone with no work experience/non-IP a decent chance at biglaw?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
