Thank you card/e-mail necessary?

Had a screening interview last week and got the callback an hour later. The callback is in 10 days. Good time to send a thank you card or e-mail to the original interviewer, or totally unnecessary?

If you're going to do it at all, make it soon. Generally I do these within 24 hours, and it's already been a week for you.

This subject has a lot of opinions. The way I see it, you really don't have anything to send a thank you for until the callback. That's when the firm has really done something for you, even if you don't get the job.

Always send thank you notes. Never hurts, can only help.

I never did thank you cards until the callback. I think that's the norm. If you do send a thank you card, do it soon.

And thank you cards can hurt if they contain a mistake or two.
