Bidding based on SA class size?

Should I pay much attention to SA class size when bidding?

If Firms A and B both excel in the kind of work I want to do, but Firm B hires 5x as many SAs, is it better to bid on Firm B? Or should I expect the interview-callback-offer ratio to be about equal regardless of class size?

Basically, I'm worried that bidding on firms with really small class sizes would be wasting bids...

I will definitely be considering SA class size.

If Firm A and B have the same reputation and same grade targets at your school, I would much rather bid on the firm that has 25 SAs rather than the firm with 5 SAs.

Yeah, that's how I'd been thinking, too.

But then I started thinking that firms might interview (roughly) proportionally - say, 30 students per available SA position - regardless of how many positions they have. If that's true and students are all bidding on firms with bigger class sizes, then all those bids would make getting an interview and subsequent offer from those firms harder.

But then I started thinking I was over-thinking it, and I came here to double-check. Thanks!

I would be careful about this logic - it might work for getting a SA position, but it might backfire for getting a permanent offer / secure position. The more leveraged the firm is, the more likely that they expect a high attrition rate or are able to defer a large number of associates. For the most part, the not-so leveraged firms had the fewest layoffs and the highest permanent offer rates.
