# of 2L's who got at least 1 offer: ~270 (67.5%)
V10 Placement: 19.25%
V25 Placement: 34%
V50 Placement: 49.75%
V75 Placement: 56.5%
V100 Placement: 61.25%

would have anticipated more leakage by now, DF.

(too early to call this thread a dud?)

Give it a little while. Maybe some schools don't fill students in until after finals?

Maybe OP should put the NYU and Columbia data at the top of the thread if he wouldn't mind.

It's interesting that 60+% got V100, and only 6% got "other" Biglaw jobs. To me that suggests that, had the bottom 3rd aimed a little lower, it might have been better rewarded. Seems like something that will correct itself when next year's data come sout. Still, have the class in V50 jobs ITE is pretty impressive.

It's actually a bloodbath. This isn't 67% of the class in biglaw jobs, it's 67% of the EIW participants. This means that anyone who knew they didn't want biglaw, because they wanted PI, gov't, etc., isn't counted. In the past, well over 90% of EIW participants got offers, and many got multiple offers.

quick clarifying question: what is the relevance of V10 vs V25 vs V50, etc. Reading ATL, I gather that the V10s may have been a more secure place to be this past year but beyond that -- somewhat nebulous differences in job security -- who cares if it's V10 or V100?

your future employers will care

and actually i think there's been a huge difference in job security at V10 than V100

It's not really about job security. It is more about a combination of prestige and exit opportunities. V5 firms offer different opportunities; having such a name on your resume can get you into doors down the road that other firms just cannot.

Right, I understand the numbers. That's why I qualified with "ITE." And, anecdotally, 2009 OCI (C/O 2011) was the worst year, right?

And probably will be, at least in terms of uncertainty. It's unlikely that we'll see a rebound in hiring, but it's also unlikely that the same kind of infinite deferrals, 50% summer offer rates, rescinded offers, etc. will be repeated.

Hey now - at least credit the original author/compiler of that data. Because I spent time looking up V designations and counting up offers instead of studying, my chance at all the V's got downgraded.

Disagree. What it looks like to me from the limited data we have is that the firms are essentially approximating the students admissions numbers based on their school and class ranking and adjusting their hiring up and down accordingly.

It makes a hell of a lot of sense. Biglaw admissions are basically law school admissions, just with more specified, standardized data.

A bloodbath? Then what are you calling what happened below T6? These results are much better than what I expected, especially since there was some speculation that firms would take the better students from all schools, and more or less ignore mediocre students from all schools. Instead, it seems like school prestige meant even more in 2009.
As always, it's relative, and it was exponentially worse at lower-regarded schools. But 30%+ less students with jobs is huge, no matter if it takes you from 90-60% or 60-30%.

ugh. this thread depresses me. I blame Renzo -- not because of anything he said but rather for his pull-no-punches, balls-and-strikes rhetorical style. Every time I think there's hope, Renzo is there to shatter it.

I still like you though Renzo. :|

This makes me even more curious to see additional school's data. Is there a way to see when schools release the data, or can more current students provide this information?

That's why I started the thread, to get students to leak their schools data.
