Summer job before 1L resume question

I've worked in law firms the past couple summers, and I'd like to work in another one before my 1L year, if possible. I just have a quick resume question.

I'm paying the deposit these next couple of days to Vandy. Should "VULS JD Candidate 2013" be on my resume? Mentioned in my cover letter (example: "I will be attending VULS in the fall, and I would like to gain legal experience" or something)? Not mentioned at all? I would think not mentioned at all, but I'm pretty clueless about this sorta thing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.

You can include it, sure.

That said, unless you need the money or have a career you're continuing in, you're better off just taking the summer off and relaxing. When school starts you hit the ground running, and hard.

Not mention it at all?! Come on man, use your head. As long as you're sure it's VULS (it'd be embarrassing to change your mind), go with:

Vanderbilt Law School, Nashville, Tennessee
J.D. (in progress), May 2013
$x merit scholarship recipient

Yeah, you haven't learned any law yet, but getting in is the important part. Scalia once said something like "I only hire clerks from the top schools b/c only the top students can get into them. They may not teach you anything, but you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear."

Haha I do love that quote. I guess my main concern is sounding pretentious about something in which I haven't really accomplished anything yet.

The money is nice, as the parents don't like paying for bar tabs and road trips. Also, it's just nice to have something to do, frankly.

Sigh... every year 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls tell 0Ls not to do anything before school starts, to just kick back and relax, and they never listen. Then when those 0Ls get to law school and realize how fucking hard they're going to be working, they realize their mistake.

TRUST ME, you want to relax and do nothing. You will be busy from the day law school starts (yes, the first day) until you quit the legal profession. Enjoy your freedom.

Umm who takes off the entire summer before school starts? I don't know a single person who wasn't working and trying to save money up until a few weeks before classes started. After HS who can afford to take off 3 months with no income?

1. People that were smart enough to work before hand and save up money.

2. People whose living expenses during the summer are minor compared to the debt they're already going to be taking out, so a little bit more isn't going to worry them.

3. People with families that love them.

1. These people don't exist.

2. These people are irresponsible.

3. These people don't include me (strict "18 and out" policy in our household... no chance of readmission).
