Basically, besides feeling like a whore, are there any other possible issues I might run into at OCI if I intern abroad in Hong Kong or something?
Wait a minute....programs you can buy?? If I had known earlier, I would have bought an internship in Hong Kong in a second!! Can you post links to the programs? Thanks.
I was looking at http://www.nextstepconnections.com for Hong Kong. However, they don't specify whether the job is something for an undergrads or for law students (and I heard this type of "internship placement" was more popular with undergrads). This place has one that seems to be solely for law students, but it's Shanghai: http://www.projects-abroad.org.

When I said programs you can "basically" buy though, I meant that unless you are absolutely unemployable, you'll probably get something. My biggest problem is that the "something" can be anything from an internship at Linklaters to a coffee bitch at a solo firm. Their "guarantee" isn't going to be very helpful when it's May and all they have to offer me is an internship at a solo firm in HK and I have to fork over the rest of the $6000. The b.s. testimonials on their sites don't seem to be too promising either, with the only law intern I found being some student at Elon who didn't mention anything about the actual internship...

Of course, the flip side is that with zero connections (professional or otherwise) to HK and since I go to a non HYS, no HK firm/company would even take a second to look at my resume before putting it in the shredder.

T2, at least top 20%, 2 interviews and still nothing. One application has been 'under consideration' for almost a month now. Starting to consider giving up and doing something else entirely for the summer just to make money instead.

Good luck with OCI if that's your plan. I would definitely keep trying to land any type of law related work, no matter how much it costs. Though at top 20% at a T2 you're probably not landing a firm job even if you interned at the Supreme Court.

Have you tried calling rather than e-mailing? I know an undergrad internship is not equivalent to a law school internship, but it's how I got internship offers at the local DA, PD, and AG offices as well as a couple solo firms last summer (I ended up taking the DA's office, long story short it's why I hope to be attending law school this fall).

Basically, I would call up....the receptionist would be confused.....redirect me to whoever was in charge....I would strike up a conversation (where I go to school, what I'm looking to do etc.) and they would either bring me in for a formal interview or tell me how to apply.

Again, I know my advice is clearly not on the same level as others, but I feel like the general principle is solid. Be willing to put yourself out there and give people a reason to give you a chance. E-mails are easy to delete. Granted, phone calls are easy to dodge, but it's a quick and simple for someone with time constraints.

Good luck!

EDIT: 2 important things I left out. 1.) I made many many phone calls and failed miserably most times. 2.) My school was paying for the internship (I applied for the program, got accepted, and searched for an internship), so I didn't have to worry about whether it was paid or unpaid.

Hi!

I have started a corollary to this thread. Please go ahead and vote. It will help me compile information about the law schools I am considering and it will only take you a couple of seconds. Plus, you will get a good feeling knowing you are helping someone in need.

Thanks!

Top 10% at a T6, still nothing. Had something that seemed pretty set then they contacted me the day before the interview saying they don't know if they have space. Now I'm back to square one and definitely going to miss my schools funding deadline for PI internships.

Don't tell me Olivio reposted anonymously 4 minutes later to re-bump his useless employment poll. You were already politely ignored the first two times, now it's just getting annoying

Miss, I am sorry to have annoyed you. I'm sure you'll receive this news quite happily: my poll is dead. A bunch of childish scumbags used it for personal pleasure. And now it is dead. Dead may it be, I'm sure they would welcome the chance to fuck it. Such is the vileness of their impulsion.

Potential Job 2 wrote:Palantir Technologies (Palo Alto CA)
Title: Legal Ninja Intern
Description:
You: Your blend of skills and background make you uniquely qualified for this job – beyond having a serious passion for law, you’re a self-motivator who feels uneasy if you’re not challenged, and it’s likely that you’ve spent the majority of your life pursuing excellence in everything you do. That said, you’re not an overachiever for the sake of being so and you’ve got a firm sense of balance – you’re a real person away from the library.

You’re not convinced that life at “big law” is a fit for you. You’d take the excitement of a start-up culture where you can roll up your sleeves and apply your knowledge to a variety of projects, over being buried in doc review any day. Your ideal summer would include sinking your hands into real world challenges that need an acute mind and a whole lot of creativity, inside of a fun company. The idea of a 9-5 makes you a bit ill and the chance to work with people of your caliber, who actually enjoying hanging out outside of the office, produces the opposite feeling!

Us: We are a software product company that has created two data analysis platforms, which allow users to tackle their most critical questions by finding connections between seemingly disparate pieces of data, in record time. We firmly believe we are standing at the precipice of a revolution in data analysis and we’re committed to leading the way.

Palantir is more than a company; it’s a family. We take care of each other, and are proud of our work, our accomplishments and our teammates. Palantir is a meritocracy, where egos are checked at the front door, and walking up to the whiteboard looking for the best answer – regardless of ownership – is a matter of habit. We have embraced the old adage, “If you never fail, then you aren’t taking enough risks.” We take failure as an opportunity to come together as a team and ask why until we’re confident that we’ve diagnosed the problem and that we’ve figured out how to prevent it from happening again. At Palantir, hiding a failure is taboo; instead, you get respect for letting the rest of the company know what happened and how they can avoid making the same mistake.

Despite our casual dress and laid-back offices, we can be very intense in our commitment to meeting the high standards set by customers and ourselves. This means you’ll get a huge amount of positive feedback for top-quality work, and constructive criticism for anything less. This should excite you, not scare you We’re a company with an engineering mindset. Engineers love to solve problems and optimize process. You should too, no matter which team you work in. We are constantly seeking improvement in our product, in our process, and in our people. If you see something starting to break, don’t just complain- suggest a fix. Better yet, fix it yourself.

The role: As a Legal Ninja intern, you will report directly to Palantir’s Legal Counsel and assist on a variety of projects. You will have the opportunity to interface with outside counsel from some of the best firms in the world, but you get to be yourself – no pinstripes; we prefer jeans. Projects will include a variety of practice areas: IP (including Patent, Trademark and Software Licensing), International Law, Government Contracts, Corporate, Compliance).

We are looking for someone smart, flexible, with the ability to think creatively, write clearly and immerse themselves in a culture where the best idea always wins.

Compensation Details: Base monthly salary, plus housing stipend
Salary Range: 2,500 - 5,000

Oh, well, in that case you can go f- yourself.

Edit: I really hope you're not being serious. I take some of my time to find you a few options and you think they're not good enough for you? Damn, man, you've got some arrogant nerve. If that's the case, you deserve to stay broke and unemployed.

Wtf? Do you know who you are talking to? THE A'nold. Don't come on here bringing your crap 1k a week jobs and then act like I should be grateful. If I was that desperate I'd just go work at Holland & Hart or something. You may go now.
