How do partners find out about pro bono work you've done?

How is pro bono work recorded? I found articles where pro bono work is encouraged in some law firms (appropriate amount, of course), because it contributes to the image/reputation of the law firm. How do associates let partners know that they've done X amount of pro bono work? Thanks.

There's usually a pro bono coordinator who handles such things. More and more firms have a full-time pro bono partner.

Most firms have billing codes for their pro-bono clients. You bill to that number the same way you would to a paying client.

All of the above, plus in many cases the pro bono work will actually come from the firm. The full time pro bono coordinator (if there is one) or someone else will be in charge of managing requests for pro bono assistance and farming them out to associates to work on.
