I have heard quite the opposite. I have a friend whose mother used to work for them but she left because of ethical issues.
This is hearsay, of course, but nonetheless...
I also really liked them and was surprised to hear this from my friend. Oh well.

While it's true that PW, like most firms, tightened its belt last year, it definitely hasn't stopped hiring. Based on my screening interview (one of my worst), I suspect that they don't put quite the same premium on interview fit as do other firms, which may be good or bad news depending upon your grades and interview skills.Anonymous User wrote:Next to impossible to get into....great place tho.
The location is crap, but the firm really cares about diversity, has solid financials, and is pretty prestigious for litigation--their corporate practice is a bit weaker. The people I met there were decent. Some of the associates looked a bit stressed out, but that's not particularly unusual for a firm of PW's size and reputation.

I worked for Paul Weiss my 2L summer. I thought the people were nice and really, really smart. They work on a couple of moderately interesting cases. Much of their practice (especially for junior lit associates) consists of these massive, repetitive securities litigations. This gets boring real quick, even as a summer associate.
Most of the litigation associates there like it simply because they find their co-workers decent and believe that working at PW will set them up well for whatever it is down the line. In that sense, the place can seem a bit soul-less. They seem to be doing quite well in the recession though.
On the whole, I liked it. But I went in 95% sure I'd want to do something other than BIGLAW right out of law school. So I came in a bit jaded.
