1L job offers for summer 2010
I'm interested to see what type of summer work 1L's get this year. If you obtain employment this summer, post it. If you want to put your school and how you got the job, that may be useful for other people in their job search.
If you prefer to post anonymously because of the economy, that's fine too.

Word is that a number of YLS students have received firm offers/interviews, obviously without grades. It sounds like firms are starting to recruit a bit again!

I think it was far from obvious that firms were hiring 1Ls even at schools like HYS .

If so, I know about her too - she insisted on putting her job search results on her Facebook status.
FWIW: HLS here. URM. No luck with firms, but I didn't apply until around 12/20, and I haven't heard from any of the diversity programs.

Apparently, she has told the entire 1L class.

UVA 1L
Had interviews with a few federal district court and state appellate court judges. Will be interning with an appellate court judge in my home state, where I plan to practice. Possibly splitting between two judicial internships or one judicial internship and short stint at a big firm.

T10, big/midlaw (300-500 lawyers, pays market for area) offer in a secondary market. Strong connection to location. No grades. Few years non-legal work experience. Still waiting to hear back from another interview with a firm of same size and pay level. Both interviews were last week.

Columbia 1L. Interning with a judge on the 2nd circuit. Possibility of split if somethign else comes through (they told me as much), but I'd also be happy doing just the internship.

CCN 1L - top ~25% but not all applications asked for transcripts and many sent before grades came out
Probably interning w/ the US Department of Justice, unless something else comes up.

Michigan 1L. Externing with a federal judge on the 9th Circuit. I pretty much only applied to 9th Circuit federal externships along with one PI gig. (I ended up with multiple fed judge offers and a PI offer.)

T2 1L. Offers from DA (unpaid) and local energy corp. (paid), interviewed with US-A in home town (unpaid, split), should hear back in Feb. All self-made connections, no help from career services office. No grades yet. Good luck to all.

T2 fail- Predictably, multiple letters from judges asking for grades first. Grades still not out until late this week or even early next week.

Am I missing something, or are you padding your thread with fake posts? The post count and join date are the same for all the posts.

I'm a 2L, t25, pretty good connections in my home target market, not law review, but "2nd best journal" numbers, and damn near 100 interviews it feels like.
Nothing. Firms, judges, government...nothing.
How are 1Ls, even from my same school, getting all these prestigious internships and I'm left in the dust.
Sincerely,
An Hero.

Sounds like you're good on paper since you're getting lots of interviews. Maybe your interview skills need some work?Anonymous User wrote:I'm a 2L, t25, pretty good connections in my home target market, not law review, but "2nd best journal" numbers, and damn near 100 interviews it feels like.

Re: 1L job offers for summer 2010
Clarification: I got interviews with all the firms, but didn't get ANY judge/government/actually obtainable job interviews. And I had plenty of call backs, so I made it through the 1st rounds of any firm I was in the running for. Not even a screening interview for prosecutors/judges.Aeroplane wrote:Sounds like you're good on paper since you're getting lots of interviews. Any ideas anyone? Some have suggested trying different states altogether, but I'm too poor to live away from my family even for a summer. Is there any downside to just applying for RA positions so I can stay at school, or if that doesn't pan out, just working at Wal-Mart for the summer?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
