Hello!

I attend UC Berkeley. They offer P/F classes as well as P/NP classes. Is there a difference for LSDAS gpa calculation? It is my understanding that receiving an F in a PF class affects your gpa for LSDAS and counts as a Fail. If the aforementioned is true, does this apply for P/NP classes also? Does a NP received in a P/NP class also count as a Fail in the LSDAS calculation?

First, thanks for this compilation of information. I'm sure I'll be referencing this throughout my application process.

Second,

You do not need to send in foreign institution transcripts if the work you complete at the foreign institution is the equivalent of one year or less of undergraduate student at the foreign institution.

I've seen it suggested that you must request a transcript for any credits earned abroad, even if under one year. EG at my school, study abroad credits appear as P/F on the transcript, do not contribute towards GPA, but LSAC would want a transcript from Austria from my semester there?

Thanks for clearing that up. I've been told so many times otherwise that it's mindnumbing. I think this illustrates the necessity of this article. :D

Quick question, while calculating the LSDAS GPA...are credit by exam grades counted as well?

I tested out of college level Spanish at my University, receiving a total of 16 hrs in A's. Anyone that has tested out of courses know this for sure? Thank you.

BTW, longtime reader...1st time posting. :)

So what does the LSDAS do about course retakes? I got a C in a class that is killing my gpa, if I re-take that class will the new grade cancel out the old grade?

YC - thanks so much for all this, your postings are invaluable. This is only my second post here at TLS, I am taking the Sept 09 LSAT, start Testmasters next week, and have a quick question.

My UGPA was 3.5 then LSAC worked their magic and it's now a 3.46. My question is: I was a history major and took 3-4 graduate level history courses in my senior year. Should I write an addendum about this or ? Not sure there's anything I can do, but any advice from you can help.

Thanks a lot, and appreciate any thoughts.

-e

Thanks YC - I guess I should have been a bit more clear.

I was really wondering more about writing an addendum to explain that I did take the graduate level courses as a way to perhaps bring attention to the fact I was taking very difficult classes. I wasn't worried about the decrease from my UGPA to LSAC GPA - I know that is something that won't change.

I would advise against it. Addendums should be used to explain increasing GPA trends, criminal activity, etc. Law schools will get actual copies of your transcripts (as well as LSAC's Academic Summary Report), and that should be sufficient for your situation.
OK thanks!

Thanks for this YC, very good guide.

I have a question about this line about transcripts:

YCrevolution wrote:This includes college-level courses taken at a collegiate institution while in high school and graduate courses taken while enrolled as an undergraduate.

I took an algebra 1 math class at a CC after 7th grade so that I could get ahead (competitive 7th grader, i know). I also took 3 other classes at the same CC during high school. Will all 4 classes count towards my LSAC GPA, or only the 3 that I took in high school?

Wow, great resource thanks so much!

Does the Transcript Analysis in the Academic Summary Report only show up once all transcripts are submitted, or should it show up as soon as the first transcript is received and processed?

TIA

Awesome guide. I have a quick question though.

LSAC received my transcript in the last day or two. Yesterday, I logged in and my academic summary was available. However, my transcript is still only listed by them as 'received' and at 1:30 AM this morning I got an e-mail stating they had just received my transcript and that I should allow up to two weeks for processing.

I just want to know if my transcript has been processed, and what it would look like on the LSAC web page if it had, because the current academic summary is missing some study abroad stuff.

On my home lsac after logging in, it just says 'Transcript: ! One Received'

On the 'transcripts' page that describes the process under 'my details' it just says 'transcripts: 1 received, None outstanding'.

Has my transcript been processed? The Academic Summary Report has a transcript analysis on it, again just missing a year I spent abroad, as in the credits don't exist anywhere on my current summary.
