Masters in Theology AFTER Law School

Hey Guys,

I am currently a 1L at a Top 14. So I am thinking of doing a masters in Theology or some other kind of religious studies. Obviously I will be doing it after I graduate from law school. I do want to be a lawyer but I really do want to do some academic program in religious studies before I practice law (I was thinking Duke/Harvard/Yale--a challenging and rigorous program)

I was wondering will it affect my legal job search when I finish my Masters in Theology. Any other thoughts or comments are welcomed.

Thank you.

I wonder if you can take a year off in the middle to get your masters...?

I think I would rather graduate from law school, pass the bar, and might work part-time as a lawyer for my brother (lawyer) and do the masters.

I know a guy who did exactly this. He has his own practice now. Take that as you will.

there was someone in the emory book that came with the acceptance package who is doing a joint jd/mts and interned the state departments international religious freedom office...so you could use your theology background to with government policy in engaging religious communities..
or you could be a lawyer for demons like pat robertson.

if your not doing a joint degree, think about getting a job straight out of law school and doing your masters part-time at night.

Horrendous anti-Chicago trolling.

I'm currently finishing up a masters in theology at one of the "challenging and rigorous" programs you mention and will be attending a T14 law school in the fall. I can't speak to how employers would view doing the masters after law school (I imagine it might cause confusion), but feel free to PM if you want to know more about my program.
