Re: Florida State University Class of 2012
Question: Has anyone been to their blackboard account and checked their financial aid? If so does it just have your total amounts eligible for the federal subsidized and unsubsidized stafford loan and NOT the federal plus loan? Answers on why there is nothing about the plus loan would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: When I got my financial award package from MIami it had the PLUS loan amount on it, so I assume I would be eligible at FSU also.

Plus loans are a seperate application. Be warned, they do not have the grace period for payback that other loans will have.

Any idea on how long the application process takes?

Mine shows my subsidized and unsubsidized federal loan amounts. I believe the PLUS loan is by application. I never got an email with the password to check my financial aid status though. I happened to have it saved in an old e-mail account I used when I applied as an undergrad.TKM wrote:Question: Has anyone been to their blackboard account and checked their financial aid? The process does not take long at all. Avoid them if you can. If you apply your 3L year you get slightly more. The amount you receive is usually only abt 4k per semester.

The way that they calculate Plus loans is they take the amount that an "average" semester should cost, say 12K. Then they subtract the amount of $ that you have already received via student loans, say 8K. They subtract the smaller from the larger and the amount left is what your Plus loan will be. I was an in-state student so I can only speak from my perspective. Honestly, if I had it to do over again I might not have gotten the Plus loan.

Thanks for the info!
I was under the assumption that federal loans were much better than private loans. Is that not the case?
Sorry for all the questions but i've been sitting on them all weekend.

They are, except Plus loans. Imagine my surprise when I get a bill and a phone call telling me I needed to start repaying my loan right away. HOWEVER, they are better than bar loans. Plus loans are administered by DOE, which makes them federal loans and subject to consolidation, bar loans are pure private loans and are not, at least not in the cheap and easy way that your other loans are.

Yea that's not going to be fun. It sounds like even though it lacks a grace period it is better than the alternative. I just don't understand how they expect you to pay it back when you still have the bar exam to take (not that they care).

Your final semester has additional money in it to help defray the costs of the bar, but it is a very minor amount.

I think the only thing included is trash pick-up. I was a little disappointed by that, but the apartments are great and I REALLY wanted to have a washer and a dryer in my unit.AJaKe wrote:I couldn't find much on their website, do you know if utilities/cable/internet is included in the rent?apere054 wrote:Yay! Just got back from visiting the campus, absolutely loved it. Megan was very nice (and yes, very yawny), as was the director of admissions. Parking sucks though, so for those who are visiting be warned. The visitor's parking garages around the school are your best bet, but even those were near full when I was there.
