Driving actually isn't as big of a deal as many people make it out to be for the law school. You have the entire law school parking lot as well as all of fraternity row which is right next to the law school for parking. As a law student to get a Commuter decal which is reserved for graduate students so you are fighting for spots in the law school parkng lot with anyone other than other law students. It is nice to be in walking distance or biking distance, but if you are a little further away its not the end of the world. I just thought this might be helpful for some of you.

Speaking of biking, is there a bike rack at the school of law? On a nice day, I think I would rather bike, especially if I'm so close.

Yes there are bike racks at the law school. There are bike racks at every major building on campus

Ill be living in wildflower appts. Its 2 miles from law school but really nice, somewhat costly. They seem ideal for studying and much nicer than the houses in the law school area.

I'm looking for a house within walking distance of the law school. There seem to be a few available. I've heard of a lot of apartments but they seem to be a bit far away for my liking.

I should mention that the reason I want to walk vs drive is that I am a horrid driver. The less I drive, the less likely it is I will fuck up my car.

Been there. Nevermind that most of the undergrad drivers are probably worse.

From the law school's website...

Suggested Reading
The professors who teach Introduction to the Profession strongly encourage you to read Hegland, “Introduction to the Study and Practice of Law”, (West Nutshell series, 1995, ISBN#: 0314059334), which may be purchased wherever West Publishing law textbooks are sold. We also suggest reading legal autobiographies and biographies. The autobiographies of Clarence Darrow, and the biographies of Oliver Wendell Holmes and Learned Hand, particularly Judge Hand by Gerry Gunther, are favorites. You may read for enjoyment about the law such authors as Grisham and Turow, as well. In addition, it is recommended that you get a Black’s Law Dictionary, an invaluable resource for the study of law. Furthermore you can read, “Whatever I needed to know I learned in Kindergarten,” which can be purchased at your local bookstore.

At the ASD in April they said don't worry about summer suggested readings. I'm sure a "this is what you're getting into" book would be worth it though.

Hi all, I'm attending starting Fall 2009. Does anyone have any insight on Mac vs. PC? I know the exam software only runs in Windows. Is anyone getting a Mac anyway and going through the work to install windows? I really wanted a Mac for fun, but now I'm leaning towards pc because its already set up as needed. thanks!

I just got a mac pro 13 inch for this coming fall and wouldn't worry about the software thing. You need windows for what a few days out of the year? Doesn't take a whole lot of time and you get a much better computer IMO.

There are two drawbacks to getting a Mac: first, as you mentioned, the exam software only runs in Windows. You can get Parallels to run a copy of Windows or use Boot Camp, which is included with Mac OS X. You have to buy Parallels, but it can run Windows within a window in OS X. Everything operates within one file so if things go to crap it won't affect the rest of your computer. The second drawback is that the video out is a proprietary connection and you'll need an adapter if you want to use your laptop for presentations. Then again, you could just put it on a flash drive or burn it to a CD and use the computers in the classroom that are set up specifically to run presentations.

On the other hand, Macs are nearly 100% resistant to viruses and have a backup program that is really easy to use (you do have to buy an external hard drive). I had a 13" aluminum Macbook and "upgraded" last week: dumped the old one on eBay, used my education discount to get a cheap 13" MB Pro with the free iPod I can also sell on eBay to subsidize the whole thing (tbh, I just wanted the backlit keyboard). A solid Macbook will run you $1099 with a free 8GB iPod touch with your education discount.

The only way you can screw up your computer situation is by 1) buying a netbook/$399 laptop or 2) not backing up your data regularly.
