The vibe that I got from Pinnacle was that it is like law school summer camp, they advertised the fact that they have poolside law school bar be ques. When I asked Colonial Village about this they said that catered to a more mature demographic and did not do that sort of thing.dresq wrote:I'm planning on visiting Colonial Village at Deerfield and Pinnacle Ridge this weekend (maybe even this afternoon). Does Duke Law's emblem remind anyone else of Star Trek?

Star Trek is awesome. I think I may have drastically increased the geekiness of this thread with my last couple of posts.Bosque wrote:In a good way, yes.aer wrote:Does Duke Law's emblem remind anyone else of Star Trek?

Re: Duke Law Class of 2012
Just got back from an apartment hunting trip. Complexes visited:
- Alexan Place at South Square
- The Lofts at Lakeview
- North Pointe Commons
- The Parc at University Tower
- Station Nine
- West Village
I don't want to influence anyone's thinking with unsolicited information, so if anyone has any questions about any of these properties, please feel free to PM
btw, returning to NC and Duke confirmed my decision since leaving after ASW that I'm so psyched to have this opportunity...I know it's early, but who else is getting pumped for August!

Reserved an apartment in Colonial Village at Deerfield today for an early August move-in. Getting way more space there for less money than what's charged at Pinnacle Ridge for much smaller places.

Hi dresq,
I am 99% sure I will be at Deerfield also. I am jealous you were able to reserve a place. I am on some kind of a waitlist. Sounds like I should call them.

I checked into getting the Duke insurance set up prior to August 1. Basically, it is a no go. Here is what they told me:
"If you are required to be on campus prior to 8/1 you can enroll in the end
of this years plan. Otherwise, you'll need to do COBRA or another gap
insurance."

Awesome! I'm glad I won't be alone. I think the waitlist depends on what layout you want and when you want to move in. I wouldn't worry too much. In NC, the required move-out notice is 60 days, so they won't know about the leases ending in late July/early August until the end of this month. Something will open up, I'm sure.BarrelState wrote:Hi dresq,

I got really lucky. I was looking for a 1BR, but all they had available for an early August move-in was a 2BR. I was kinda bummed, but then he told me the price of the 2BR. Over 1000 sq. ft., 2BR + 2 bath, W/D hook-ups (I already have a W/D to bring), and basic cable included for a whisker over $700/mo. If I decide to get a roommate at some point, it'll be like $350/mo. each. I figure I'll just make the extra room into a study, though. Plus it's in the middle of Duke forest, they have a gym and a swimming pool, it's secluded and quiet, it's 2 miles from the school, it's in a great place for me to ride my bike, and I'll have a screened-in porch. Needless to say, I pounced all over that sh*t!!
Was Deerfield not on the tour? I'm surprised that more people don't seem to want to live there.

It was on the tour - I am as surprised as you are how few people seem to want to live there. Is your apartment first floor or second floor?

Re: Duke Law Class of 2012
From the Duke Law website regarding the waitlist:
With the May 1 deadline past, we have received sufficient tuition deposits that we do not anticipate making additional offers of admission in the next few weeks. We will closely monitor the class throughout the summer, and may have the opportunity to admit addtitional students at a later date. Please continue to update your application file and let us know of your continued interest.
Over-enrollment for our class or did they hit their target number? Discuss.

It seems like it would be impossible to tell if the class is at target or over-enrolled. The website would likely say the same thing in both situations. In either case, I'm glad I am already admitted.

I haven't even gotten my Duke netid yet! Have they already started sending emails, providing important information? Should I be concerned?

Re: Duke Law Class of 2012
No, and no. I was just trying to do my immunization records today, and kept getting an error, so I tried to log onto my email account to check that my NetID was working. Getting errors there, too (different errors). Just wondering if it's my NetID that's not working, or if it's Duke's whole NetID service that's temporarily down.Back2School wrote:I haven't even gotten my Duke netid yet! It looks like everything was down for a little bit and it's back up now. I haven't received anything other than the alias email in my inbox. If you haven't played around on the site yet though, I would start looking at your immunization forms. For fall starters, they're due on June 30th -- and you need all of your vaccination records since birth.

Re: Duke Law Class of 2012
The main emails I am getting to my Duke account are about graduate student events. They also seem to send out mass emails whenever a crime is committed within a mile or so of Duke.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
