What do the instructions say?
If it doesn't say specifically, then I'd say it's fine. I did it on a few where they'd limit me at 1 page or 2 for the PS but not explicitly give directions for the PS.

Double spaced... means double spaced.
They can tell when you mess with the margins. They'll either think you're
1) arrogant for not following their instructions
2) inept for not following their instructions
Neither are good signs.

Eh. I ignored the double spaced rule and it turned out fine. The PS/DS is to get your story and see how you write. As long as you don't do something too extreme, I doubt they'll go after you for you spacing.

Follow the instructions, but they are not going to reject you if you accidentally sent them 1.5 spaced when they wanted 2. That is just silly.

Double-spacing is easy to judge. I'd be more inclined to mess with margins since a 1-inch margin setting on a computer sometimes produces a 1.25-1.5 inch bottom margin. Depending on the font, you can set the bottom margin to 0.8-0.9 inches and still get a 1 inch bottom margin. You can also edit like crazy. That's what I did. You'd be surprised at the number of unnecessary sentences you find.

Some schools cares... Others don't... Follow there directions... Emory said it could be single or double-spaced.
