Emory Class of 2012
Hey guys,
I didn't see this one on the board yet, so I decided to start it up. Even though I haven't heard back everywhere, I've decided to go Emory Law School. Anyone else on board here?

I've been accepted, but I haven't made any final decisions. Emory is in the three offers I'm still considering. Sucks that they're visitation is actually after some schools require deposits!

I'm still trying to decide but I am definitely considering Emory. I just need to do some school visits and hear back about scholarships.

In the same boat as the others. I've got to tour sometime soon and need to hear something about scholarships before I make a decision. However, Emory is in my top two.

Emory is awesome. They're definitely one of my top choices so far. I've met a few of the professors and think it's an awesome fit. Anyone know when the scholarship info is gonna come out?

anyone who has visited- would you mind sharing some of your impressions of the school? Because of tax season at work I can't go to the ASW. I was also accepted and am considering Emory

I know it's weird of me to start this thread and bailout on the school, but it looks as if I won't be going to Emory. I got an unexpected acceptance w/ scholarship from Notre Dame, so unless something drastic happens, I'll probably be going there.

Until now I was pretty set on going to Fordham. Today Emory offered me a lot of money as well. I also see no draconian conditions on their letter that require me to place in the top third of class or something. I will not have an opportunity to visit any school but it looks like Ill be committing to them blind. Still I am happy with their offer which made them now my first pick.

I'm glad that you're happy about the scholarship, but I really think it would be a very bad decision to choose a school without visiting first. Emory's in a great area (hell, I was there yesterday on a visit), so I'm not trying to warn you or something. Just go take a look around before you commit to a school.

Unfortunately it will be impossible for me to return to the States before the deposits are due.bama philosophe wrote: I'm glad that you're happy about the scholarship, but I really think it would be a very bad decision to choose a school without visiting first. While I am not familiar with Atlanta or the South at all, I think I am pretty flexible. Emory is a great institution, there is a typical college campus, and a city, which should provide me enough outlets. Are you committed in going to Emory after your visit?

I didn't realize that your situation would not enable you to visit. I really enjoyed my Emory visit--the area around the school is very nice (trees, residential area, etc.). Circumstances outside my control have dictated that I'm probably going to have to take a year off and apply again next cycle, but if I was going to be able to go anywhere this fall, I'm pretty sure Emory would be the place.ig1983 wrote:Unfortunately it will be impossible for me to return to the States before the deposits are due.bama philosophe wrote: I'm glad that you're happy about the scholarship, but I really think it would be a very bad decision to choose a school without visiting first. I'm visiting Emory April 4th. Unless I really dislike the school after visiting or an act of God happens with some of my reach schools that I haven't heard from since - I don't know - three months, I'll be there in the fall. Emory's scholarship offers make it very difficult to turn down.

Re: Emory Class of 2012
I went last November and got a very good impression of the school. The law school building is modern and is I think five stories or so. The classrooms and facilities looked comfortable, and the campus in general is beautiful. I go to UF so the difference in just walking around and not seeing so many other people was nice. In all I loved Emory.MaiKleenex wrote:anyone who has visited- would you mind sharing some of your impressions of the school? Because of tax season at work I can't go to the ASW. For those that recently got the scholarship letter, is it conditional upon performance like in some other schools? My father read me the letter over the phone, and I didn't hear anything that would indicate that it is conditional, but I just want to make sure.

I'm choosing between Emory and ND ($). Emory is a great school... so a sure possibility.

Good standing just means not failing out of school. Obviously, if you fail out you're gonna have more to be upset about then losing your scholarship.

Does anybody know when classes and orientation typically begin? When is it advised to first arrive in the city?

Re: Emory Class of 2012
What are people's thoughts on trying to bargain with Emory for more money using an offer from another school? I've got 104k from GW and 84k from Emory. Since I already have quite a bit, I feel bad asking for more. I think I might rather attend Emory, but I don't know if it's worth turning down that much more money. Has anyone tried to bargain with Emory yet?

Re: Emory Class of 2012
Hi, everyone! I've been accepted, also with an 84k scholarship. Unfortunately, the difference between the tuition and the scholarship has left me with a tough choice to make, and I'm not sure if Emory will win out, but maybe
I'm also visiting on the ASW. I'd like to see the area and visit the school.
I know this will sound weird, but I've known a couple people who didn't go to Emory because they heard that it was a really nasty-competitive environment. Does anybody know if that's a myth or true?
