At first I was like "man, a trip to NYC, not sure I can swing that." Then I realized the interview is at SCOTUS, which is about four blocks from my office. And then they're paying for everything. So I don't know...

If it's free...Do It. I know I will be. See you there and Good Luck if you decide to Interview.

yo I got the AnBryce finalist email too and am doing it, but now I'm so nervous. What am I supposed to say in the interview/how dressed up do I get/etc. I've never really interviewed for something like this b4.

Anyone know how much merit aid they give aside from the "named scholarships" or what the chances of getting any of that are?? Esp for someone who's interests/experiences/demographics (as made evident in the application) don't really fit into the mold of any of those scholarships?

oh... got it, yep an abbrev. I didn't understand. Yea, it's Ashley Olsen (I'm pretty sure), and didn't even think about the NYU ref. just thought it was a surprisingly good non-homeless looking recent pic of her. Thanks for the clarification.

I feel you. I've been sick for the past week, and I have not been enjoying it at all. There must be something nasty going around up there, because everyone I know has been sick in the past couple of weeks.

I hope you get well soon.

hey guys,

i was originally intent on living in the dorms next year, but after reading this article (http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/ideas ... our_brain/) and reviewing craigslist postings for north jersey, i'm leaning more towards living in hoboken or jersey city w/ a roommate.

i'm not from the nyc area, but it looks like i could probably find a nice 2 br/1000 sq. foot apt. in jersey for $1g/month split w/ a roommate. i don't know if there are hidden fees not revealed on craigslist, but if not this seems to me to be considerably better than paying $1350+/month to share a 500 sq. ft room in D'ag or Mercer. The commute is only about 20 min, so I highly doubt i would be giving up much. but of course, this line of inquiry begs the question--why do 66% of NYU 1Ls live on campus. any native nyers out there? thoughts on this?

It's doable, but commuting to/from Jersey can be a pain, especially at night. You won't be driving in because there's nowhere to park during school hours, and if you're at school late it's going to take time to get home. I wouldn't do it personally. The only reason I'd live in Jersey while attending NYU would be if I had a family, but you won't die. It will negatively impact your social life.

Maybe i'm just really dense, but as i looking at the "NYU Awarding Timetable" in the financial aid powerpoint and I'm not 100 percent sure what it means.

Notifications of awards will begin according to the following schedule:

April 1st - Acceptance Deadline April 14th
April 16th - Acceptance Deadline April 22nd
etc, etc, etc

Does that mean if we hear about an award by April 1st we have till April 14th to accept it? Or am I missing something?

That's what it sounds like to me, but I haven't read all of the information yet. I'm sure someone at the financial aid office could help if you call or email them... and then let us all know what they say : ) haha.

I live in NYC and am leaning towards NYU in the fall. As much as I like Hoboken and Jersey City, I don't think it'd be a good idea to live there your first year. The commute is going to be annoying, especially late at night, and after either a late night in the library or a late night at the bar (let's be honest, both will happen plenty).....you probably dont want to face the commute to NJ.

If you're looking for more space and less money, you're smart to look into off-campus housing, but I'd stick to Brooklyn and not Hoboken.

I (another native NY-er leaning toward NYU) second that, only with the housing market dropping, there is housing to be found in manhattan for a not-so-insane price.
