That's the same price as me, J1-M?
I think it's still under-budget as far as the Student Expense Budget is concerned. Am I wrong?

The student expense budget designates $20,914 for room and board. So as long as you can eat for under $5,000, you should be all set.

Hmmm... I'm going to submit a budget increase request for being a fatty who likes expensive pastries.

$8000? HA!
I ended up with a swank 15th floor studio in Mercer..$10,000...$2300 a month.
How on earth am I going to afford it though? Wondering whether I should jump ship and look for an off-campus apartment (*really* don't want to) or stick with it.
They BETTER approve a student budget increase or I'm going to starve.

5th floor of d'ag here. Not one of my top 4 choices, but better than nothing. I was hoping to get one of the middle price (C2) mercer rooms for their size. Guess I'm at least saving money now.
Anyone actually get their choices on here? I wonder how they did it since they said if you submit by May 15th, you're put in the same pool as everyone else.

7th floor of D'Ag here. It was really nice seeing that $6200 bill. When all is said and done, I'll have about $8000 for "living expenses."

I'll be in Mercer, F type apartment, middle floor. I'm really excited, but my stomach churned when I saw the price tag.
What's the general consensus on a reasonable month-to-month budget? I think the school recommends $385/month for groceries, $400/month for misc. Does that seem reasonable to our NYC-based posters?

I spoke with an NYU grad the other day. Together with his wife, they spent $240/mo on groceries and $100/mo eating out, which means that the two of them spent $340/mo. Of course, she was able to cook a lot at home while he was at class, so it might not be a realistic budget for everyone, but they were living in Mercer at the time and shopping/eating exclusively near NYU. What are the $400 in other monthly expenses? Transportation? Should only cost $100/mo - the cost of an unlimited subway pass.

On another topic, what would be a good bank to use (ie ATMs near campus, etc.)? Any ideas?

I ended up with an F1-M, actually. I didn't even notice the J-type apartments, though I'm not sure how.

And you can find a Chase ATM in any Duane Reade.

DISCLAIMER: This might not carry over because it was at Columbia and was before the economic 'apocalypse' that we're living through.
I was talking to a 2L (at CLS) about what he did for food most of the time, and he claimed that law firms came to campus to give luncheons so often that he rarely needed to buy his own food. I feel like since almost everyone is 'on a budget' the system must be 'designed' to accommodate our lifestyle....... That could be wishful thinking though.

They wrote that they would send it out in late May to early June. I really want to take care of this already.

9th floor of D'Ag, $6045. I got the 2nd cheapest apartment they offered, sharing the place with 2 other guys. The only downside I can see is a potential bottleneck for the bathroom

Me too! Feels good. I'm thinking a TV and video games are in order for the "saved" money.

I was thinking the same thing, but decided to rain on my own parade and figured I wanted as few distractions as possible (I still have the internet, which is about the biggest time sink out there). Besides, have you checked out the bedrooms? I don't think there will be any room for a TV

10X11 for me. I'll be living like a king. But I'm planning on getting a flat screen and putting it on the wall. Should be good.
