Did you get your first monthly bill from school yet? They will note it as a credit on your bill. Sometime around when school starts, they'll cut you a check for anything that's left over.

FWIW, I think the date of loan disbursal is August 21st. So we should get our much needed living expense money soon after...

I might have to cancel :( Since I am 1/3 of the attendees we have so far, this could be problematic. Will let you know for sure asap.

Hello All!

I was just wondering if anyone has given you guys the profs/class times for the different sections. I know you don't know your section numbers and I'm not sure if you guys have been looking through the course portal stuff...

You guys may already have all of this info, I don't remember when I found it last year.

Let me know if you dont!

And Congrats! Will see you all in the Fall!

Edit: Sike, my fb looker uper was wrong (you know who you are!), it was the 19th haha

Via email a week or so ago:
Finally, please be advised that 1L class schedules, sections, and book lists will not be finalized and thus not released until the beginning of September – at or right before Orientation.

They told us that too... it was a lie.

I'd be interested if it were the weekend...I'll be around August 7-9th but not actually moving in until later in the month.

I could go to a meetup anyday this week.

How about Thursday? Hopefully those who are moving in this weekend will be settled by then.

Change of subject... Is anybody else scared sh*tless about the actual classes and academic workload? Especially those who have been out of school for a while?

Cute :)

Don't be worried, all of my friends and I are wishing we could go back to 1L... if it was really bad there's no way we'd want to go back!

It'll be work, but you'll have fun!

Thanks! That's what everybody's saying. What I'm not getting is what makes 2nd & 3rd year so much tougher? It seems like you have more freedom to make your own schedule, you get to do more interesting stuff like journals, clinics, etc. Is it the stress of competition? The pressure to get a job, clerkship?

Well, I haven't done it yet, so I don't exactly know what it is that makes it worse/different. You def get a lot more say in your classes and you get to do journals and pro bono and moot court and... etc. I think its just that people get SO busy as 2Ls. Plus there is the job stress during the fall semester. We have 2 weeks of interviews on campus and most people have 15-25 interviews during that time which is stressful on its own. Then a week of call backs and stressing all semester about whether you'll be hired. Clerkship stress doesn't start until the end of 2L and over the summer. Rumor has it that by the time you get to 3L (assuming you have an offer) you are just waiting to be done with law school so you can get to work and start paying off the loans :)

I actually have fond memories of the interviewing process as a Wharton UG (very similar to what you're describing). Yes, it was stressful while it went on, but you feel like such a hot commodity! This is about the only time when the pedigree of your school really matters. Of course, in this economic environment, it remains to be seen how much firms will fight over every applicant. Speaking of job prospects, what are the chances of getting a firm gig after the first year?

I don't know if anyone has asked this question yet, but I wanted to know what type of laptop works best at Penn, a pc or a mac? Is exam software a problem on macs? I really want to make the switch to a mac, but am unsure bc of compatibility issues. Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I know for sure that all exams are Windows based, but you can do bootcamp (basically dual-boot), or better yet, get VMWare Fusion, which runs Windows inside the OS.
