Maybe rabbit or sandpiper can help out on this issue, if they remember how they did it....or maybe this is a simple issue that everyone but me knows, which certainly might be the case :P
same question. anyone?
Yes, we have to have applied for our PLUS loans by May 4th through our lender. As to the Stafford, it is my understanding that Yale handles that internally, so you don't need to apply.

Speaking of applying for PLUS, I have one more question that I need answered--I'm currently a research assistant at my university (still in undergrad) working part time, and my job ends in a week. Under the PLUS loan application, it asks for my employment information--should I list my current part time university employment, or are they referring to full time, substantial employment? I would really appreciate an answer, as this point is all that's holding me back from applying for the PLUS loan.

Questions about financial aid

If private loans (like from Citibank) are cheaper than unsubsidized Staffords do we have to take the Stafford?

Has anyone figured out who offers the best deal on loans? GRAD PLUS is VERY expensive with fees and a high fixed rate. I am inclined to roll the dice with the much cheaper variable rate private loans from a bank. But I am also concerned that the private lender will only advance need vbased aid "less awards". Does that mean we HAVE to take the Staffords?

Are the "private loans" from institutional lenders covered by COAP? I think they are to the extent they cover "need based" amounts and they seem to cover anything up to the full COA.

Anyone?

Private loans to cover parental contribution (which, in most cases, the parent isn't actually going to pay) and what's left over in the base loan package after Staffords (about $15,000) are eligible for COAP in general - might want to ask about specific circumstances, but the site implies that this is ok.

It seems like the only thing COAP doesn't cover are loans to replace student contribution (summer and from assets) and possibly spousal contribution, but I haven't really looked into that.

Well guys, for the first time in my life, I'm officially in debt. And a lot of it, at that.

Thanks, Yale! :P ....I laugh so as not to cry.

Same. Nothing like saying no to $150k via e-mail.

Me too. Totally the way to go. Eliminates the possibility that you might, you know, think it through. Here's to hasty decisions!

Does everyone have housing? (I very much do not.)

*Edit: And by hasty I mean mulled over for four or five months until you have an epiphany at the ASW.

My epiphany came last night, after talking to my little brother for a few hours. He is - and I mean this in a kind and loving way - the most miserly, risk-adverse person I know. I figured that if even he was counseling me to take Yale at sticker over the Hamilton, then it couldn't possibly be the crazy fiscal suicide that I was worried it was :D

Am now in debt, and will be homeless come fall unless I find an apartment in New Haven before I go abroad for the summer, but I'm still ridiculously excited to be going to YLS!

I sent in my deposit on its own. I still haven't managed to get the financial, facebook, and profile work done. I just wanted to make sure my seat was secure!

I think that I'm more apprehensive about the logistics of living situation and loans than about actually attending Yale in the fall.....*nervous laughter*.....

Deposit in the mail yesterday, possibly flying over a red state as we speak. And I sent it with forms B and C, but without passport photos, since I don't know when I'll have time to take them in the next couple days.

Wee!

Ok, I'm still writing up my thoughts about the weekend and about my choice, which I'll post in a bit, but I think I'm pretty set on Yale too. :)
