So, I filled out the housing application last night and am now worried that I didn't put enough thought into detailing my "preferences" in the comments section. I don't know if it's important, but did any of you guys write in price ranges?

I wrote in a price range and made a note about move-in dates because they made us choose three different weeks but I really can't move in three weeks early because of my job. Hopefully they are pretty accommodating.

I wrote one sentence in the comments section regarding my first choice for housing. Maybe I should have written more.

The current students I talked to recommended being as specific in your comments as possible because they're very good at meeting your requests.

Ps: Officially deposited this morning! Joined the facebook group and everything (if anyone else is in it, I'm the girl with the badass/fake last name).

What? There's more than one Jew going to CLS, that's very difficult to believe... I am the little kid hugging a globe.

Facebook groups and email addresses... why even bother with class in the fall? It's like we're already there

Haha, seriously. Does anyone else live in New York? It’s absolutely beautiful today.
The one disadvantage of no longer being unemployed = I can't play outside right now!

It's beautiful in Philly too! 8)

And, if you're into that kind of thing, lots of track & field types running around.

True story, I just went to Starbucks to get an Arnold Palmer and then me and some co-worker chilled outside chatting for a while. It's a pretty ideal NYC day. I suspect the park and I are going to spend a lot of time together this weekend.

If you haven't already gone off to hang out in the park, is there any reason to stick with Columbia at this point? Am I really that much of a fool?

Gorgeous in DC as well!! So happy that it's Friday.

First question I have is did you already try to negotiate with Columbia? I would be surprised if they gave you nothing with the Duke offer on the table.

The second thing I would say is that if you're interested in doing something really interesting and unique with your law degree Columbia is going to be the better bet just because of connections and opportunities (also Columbia's LRAP is much better than Duke's). The truth is you can't go wrong in either place, but if it's about the number of doors it'll open Columbia definitely has the edge. I don't envy you the choice, best of luck, I hope Columbia ponies up some money to come close to Duke's offer.

They don't call them APs, they call them Shaken Iced Tea Lemonades. They're subpar, but any port in a storm.

TLS+1

Columbia was more generous than Duke in my case, and the award letter specifically said that they took my other offers into consideration.

We want you to join us at CLS of course, but if it really boils down to half-off at Duke vs. full price Columbia, I think you need a VERY GOOD reason to come to NY... At this point, you seem to have weak reasons at best. Duke is a wonderful school in a wonderful location (don't let TLSers or Durham's bad rep fool you). For an older, outdoorsy person - possibly with a family - Duke may be the right answer.

So I took the leap and submitted my deposit at Columbia Law yesterday! I think my friends and family are more relieved than I am that I FINALLY made my decision.

Can't wait to join you guys! Is anyone here from the Midwest (define it as you will)??

And for Sbalive who is currently agonizing over his decision--I can say that I gave up BIG money at Duke for Columbia. It wasn't easy, but I am a firm believe of studying in the thick of things and having direct access to the industries you are interested in working in..whether for internships or simply networking happy hours. So there are my two cents.

So I hope y'all don't mind if I copy sbalive and link to my own CLS dilemma:

http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... =1&t=69701

I am so close to committing to CLS but I'm just a little worried about the debt...tell me I'm crazy for even considering Vandy? (Gorgeous day here in Nash Vegas)

Thanks and I'll (ALMOST positively) see you in the fall!!

Well, it's an interesting datapoint that Duke versus Columbia polling results are almost the exact reverse of Vanderbilt versus Columbia :)

Thanks for your comments above... I'll see what CLS can do. The problem is that I got somewhat screwed over by Financial Aid, but we'll see if they can rectify it. From a pure numbers perspective though, I'm a $0 from CLS / $48K from Duke person - but I got a big boost from Duke due to (a) negotiation and (b) other stuff I brought to the table. Not sure if CLS cares about that stuff as much.

Also, I'd just like to point out for the record - I don't own a car, I'm a total city person, and I don't mind the occasional hike :) I also don't have a family, and basically live like a 25 year old, though I do have a S.O. (who is heavily rooting for NYC, since most of our friends live out here). But, I do realize I have to be practical, obviously. Anyway, I have some emails out to people asking for advice, and I'm also investigating LRAP details that weren't outlined in the website's documentation.

Now, I think I really do need to enjoy the sun 8)
