Columbia gave me a big "No" on my financial aid app. (Well, no to grants - they offered the minimum Stafford that all US citizens qualify for.) Such is life. I appreciate getting CLS's response today, which gives me time to think before accepting or declining NYU's offer (NYU response deadline: 5 PM tomorrow).

Is anyone attempting to negotiate with Columbia on their initial FA offer?

In NYC now; met with Jill Nussbaum today. Awesome admission's office. Does anyone have any questions you want me to ask them tomorrow?

Let me know.

Seriously. I just wanted to stop by to pick up like a campus map and we ended up talking for about 1/2 hour. She even hooked me up with a temporary student ID with $10 loaded on it for lunch.

Definitely some of the coolest hair, too.

Simple question: I selected that I prefer Co-Ed housing. Does this refer to the apartment share or building?

Apartment share. There are no unisex buildings.

I wouldn't worry about it. I heard they don't create co-ed apts unless you request specific people and don't do it at all for 2 bdroom shares.

Shame. My best living experiences have been mixed situations. Oh well, maybe that was more about winning/losing the crazy lottery than anything else.

I'd much rather live with a guy. I checked the co-ed preference and then found out that they don't do it for 2 bedroom shares. Now I'm worried I'll end up in a 3-bedroom, which isn't what I wanted. Sigh.

Alright, it's official! I finally bit the bullet and got up the courage to turn down NYU's offer (my response was due today). Now that I've declined NYU's offer, Columbia is the clear choice. I'll see you guys next year... at Columbia!

also, THRILLED with my Financial aid package.

A note for neurotic applicants who will end up aimlessly wandering this thread next year (hi there ) : being ED certainly did not hurt my financial aid package. Feel free to PM if you want details.

I got a lil greedy, so I sent NYU's 65K offer, and got a big NO in 2 days. I don't think they feel the need to be as flexible as other schools.

So weird that Chicago didn't give you any money... they are usually the most generous of CCN.

But great job on CLS and NYU!

I tried with 25K at NYU, and got the same response. Disappointing, but oh well.
